Elaine Cassidy's family moved to Kilcoole, County Wicklow, when she was three years old. Her first role was as the title character in a school production of Pinocchio when she was five.
Career
In 1996, she was nominated for the Most Promising Actress at the Geneva Film Festival for her role in The Sun, the Moon and the Stars. She played the starring role in Felicia's Journey with Bob Hoskins, for which she was nominated Best Actress at the 20th Genie Awards. She has won 2 Irish Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) for Best Actress in a Lead Role in Film in 2003 for her role as Runt in Disco Pigs, opposite Cillian Murphy, and in 2010 for Best Actress in a Lead Role in Television for her role as Abby Mills in the American CBS TV series Harper's Island. She was also nominated for an IFTA in 2005 as Best Actress in a Lead Role in Television for her role as "Maud Lilly" in the BBCBAFTA nominated drama Fingersmith, in 2007 as Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Film for her role as Sandra in And When Did You Last See Your Father? alongside Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth, and in 2009 as Best Actress in a Lead Role in Television for her role as Annie Mulcahy in Little White Lie.
Dr. Elaine Cassidy is a fictional character from the BBCsoap operaDoctors, played by Janet Dibley. She made her first appearance on 31 August 2010. She departed Doctors on 28 September 2012.
Storylines
Elaine was involved in the child abuse case of two-year-old Scarlet Hammond. Elaine was the GP for Scarlet's social worker; Najmah Hammed. Scarlet was drowned by her abusive mother and fellow doctor, Dr Simon Bond took it hard as he was Scarlet's GP. Mentally ill patient of Dr Heston Carter, Ed Harman suffered with his illness and struggled to integrate back into society after leaving Afghanistan. He attempted to kill Heston Carter after the staff at the Mill tried to help him. Ed believed he was locked in a room by Heston, when actually it was nervous Health care assistant, Karen Hollins. Ed tried to kill Heston at the Campus Surgery were Elaine was present and hit Ed over the head with a fire extinguisher. Elaine stayed at the hospital with Ed until he was released and after he left she invited him back to stop at her house for a while.
Elaine Armgard Cassidy (15 March 1930 – 21 February 2014) was a socially prominent Australian teacher and municipal politician. She served as Mayor and Deputy Mayor in the local government area of the Municipality of Woollahra in Sydney. Cassidy compiled and edited a Bicentennial book on the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney.
Birth and education
Cassidy (née Hirstman) was born in Strathfield, New South Wales, and was the first of two children of Margot (née Ludwig) and Frank Hirstman. She attended Meriden School and Macquarie Secretarial School, and then studied arts at the University of Sydney. She turned her focus to education and started teaching.
Working life
Teaching
Frensham School at Mittagong was her first appointment, teaching geography, history and English to senior students. In her second year on staff, Cassidy became an economics teacher. In that year two of her Leaving Certificate students were placed first and third in the state in economics. After travelling abroad, and having children, she returned to teaching; first as a relief teacher at Kambala and then, from 1970 until 1974, teaching economics at Ascham.

Elaine Cassidy's family moved to Kilcoole, County Wicklow, when she was three years old. Her first role was as the title character in a school production of Pinocchio when she was five.
Career
In 1996, she was nominated for the Most Promising Actress at the Geneva Film Festival for her role in The Sun, the Moon and the Stars. She played the starring role in Felicia's Journey with Bob Hoskins, for which she was nominated Best Actress at the 20th Genie Awards. She has won 2 Irish Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) for Best Actress in a Lead Role in Film in 2003 for her role as Runt in Disco Pigs, opposite Cillian Murphy, and in 2010 for Best Actress in a Lead Role in Television for her role as Abby Mills in the American CBS TV series Harper's Island. She was also nominated for an IFTA in 2005 as Best Actress in a Lead Role in Television for her role as "Maud Lilly" in the BBCBAFTA nominated drama Fingersmith, in 2007 as Best Actress in a Supporting Role in Film for her role as Sandra in And When Did You Last See Your Father? alongside Jim Broadbent and Colin Firth, and in 2009 as Best Actress in a Lead Role in Television for her role as Annie Mulcahy in Little White Lie.
