The choice has surprised many, as the 42-year-old Congressman has no prior experience in the Justice Department or as a prosecutor. Gaetz, who played a central role in ousting a Republican House Speaker in 2023, has faced several con...

Mr. Beat explains how members of the United States Congress are older now than at any point in American history. Oh, and politicians used to go against the Constitution by putting people into Congress who were too young. Put that in your Constitution and smoke it.

The United States Congress has never been older than it is right now.
Even though half of the country is under the age of 38, only about 5% of Congress is. The average age of a U.S. Representative is 58 years old. The average of a U.S. Senator is 64. Sure, most people know that Joe Biden, at 80 years old, is the oldest president in American history, but what they don’t know is that there are currently FOURTEEN members of Congress OLDER than him.
For comparison, the average age of the delegates at the Constitutional Convention was just 42.
In fact, members of Congress used to be TOO young. The Constitution says you have to be at least 30 years old to be in the Senate and 25 years old to be in the House
but the country has had FOUR U.S. Senators under 30, and possibly FIVE U.S. Representatives being under 25, with this dude (William C.C. Claiborne) possibly being as young as 22 when he first took office.

LIVE: Trump's New Cabinet Picks Slammed By Republicans | Vantage with Palki Sharma
US President-elect Donald Trump’s latest cabinet picks for his second term are raising eyebrows. Among them is Republican US Representative Matt Gaetz, selected to serve as Attorney General. “Matt will end weaponised government, protect our borders, dismantle criminal organisations, and restore Americans’ faith and confidence in the Justice Department,” Trump said in a statement, announcing the selection, which would be subject to confirmation by the Republican-majority Senate. The choice has surprised many, as the 42-year-old Congressman has no prior experience in the Justice Department or as a prosecutor. Gaetz, who played a central role in ousting a Republican House Speaker in 2023, has faced several controversies, including investigations into sex trafficking, sexual misconduct, and drug abuse. He also drew criticism for inviting a Holocaust denier to the US Congress. For the role of Director of National Intelligence, Trump has selected Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman who supported him during this election. Gabbard, the first Hindu lawmaker in US history, shares Trump’s stance on withdrawing from foreign wars. She opposes military aid to Ukraine and advocates for US withdrawal from Syria and Iraq. Meanwhile, Trump visited the White House yesterday at President Joe Biden’s invitation. According to the White House, the meeting was "substantive and cordial." On Vantage tonight, Palki Sharma delves into the implications of Trump's cabinet picks.
