"The Fall of the House of Usher" Moving Moment, featuring Edward Nelson and Brian Mulligan
The nobleman Roderick Usher has invited a friend to come stay at his decaying mansion — but the friend is surprised to find Roderick in a deep depression, his nerves shattered. Here, he tries to cheer Roderick up, his song conveying hope for a different, happier life.
“Voyons, Roderick, vous êtes jeune, vous pouvez encore échapper à ce qui vous entoure! Partez! De nouveaux paysages peuvent changer vos pensées. Si la joie a déserté votre maison, ne la croyez pas à jamais disparue," the friend sings.

But for all his hopeful words, the friend might find himself entering the same deep despair that Roderick fee...

Atrium Sessions: "Here I'll Stay," featuring Edward Nelson
In the final offering of the Atrium Sessions, baritone Edward Nelson casts a spell with Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner’s “Here I’ll Stay."
"There’s a far land, I’m told / Where I’ll find a field of gold / But here I’ll stay with you," he sings in the idyllic song, composed for the 1948 musical "Love Life."
“The greatest challenge of playing piano and singing is making it look like it’s not challenging!” shares Edward. “In order to be able to vocally and dramatically communicate the emotion of a song with an audience, the piano part has to be so ingrained in the hands that it becomes second nature. The great payoff is that the songs become a part of me in a way that can’t be replicated when only singing.”

"Look, Roderick, you are young! You can still escape what surrounds you. Leave! New scenery might change your mindset. If joy has deserted your house, don't think it's gone forever!"
But for all his hopeful words, the friend might find himself entering the same deep despair that Roderick feels — as he goes deeper and deeper into the house of Usher.
