The Ed, Edd n Eddyanimated television series features an extensive cast of characters created by Danny Antonucci. The series takes place in the fictional town of Peach Creek. The number of characters in Ed, Edd n Eddy is fixed at twelve (thirteen if Plank, a board of wood who acts as one character's imaginary friend, is included).
The show revolves around three main characters (Ed, Edd, and Eddy), usually referred to as "the Eds". There is a secondary group of characters (Kevin, Rolf, Nazz, Jimmy, Sarah and Jonny), and three teenage girls known as "the Kanker Sisters". Most of the children live in the cul-de-sac, while the Kanker Sisters live in the nearby "Park 'n' Flush" trailer park. Eddy's brother is a character mentioned throughout the series, mostly by Eddy, but is never seen until the 2009 premiere of the series' finale movie Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show; He is the only fully seen adult in the series.
The series' characters have received awards and nominations at the 2002 Fancy Anvil Awards, a fictional award show broadcast on Cartoon Network. Antonucci stated the personalities of the Eds are based on personal traits of himself, and the activities of his two sons, and that the other characters are based on children he grew up with.

During the show's run, several specials and shorts were produced in addition to the regular television series. The series concluded with a TV movie, Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show, on November 8, 2009.

The Complete Second Season DVD was released in Region 1 in 2007. The Ed, Edd n Eddy DVD volume Edifying Ed-Ventures, also featured season two episodes. Both DVDs were published by Warner Home Video. Many Cartoon Network compilation DVDs featured episodes from the season. It can also be purchased from the iTunes Store. It was written by Antonucci, Jono Howard, Mike Kubat, and Robert Leighton.

Two additional seasons of Ed, Edd n Eddy were ordered during the production of the second in 2000. The fourth season was originally set to be the last, but two more seasons as well as three holiday-themed specials were ordered as a result of the series' popularity. The voice cast remained the same as in season three, featuring Matt Hill, Samuel Vincent and Tony Sampson as Ed, Double Dee, and Eddy, David Paul Grove as Jonny 2x4, Keenan Christenson as Jimmy, Janyse Jaud as Sarah and Lee Kanker, Kathleen Barr as Kevin and Marie, Peter Kelamis as Rolf, and Erin Fitzgerald as Nazz and May Kanker. In 2004, Patric Caird was nominated for the Leo Award for Best Musical Score of an Animation Program or Series, for his work on the episode "Ed in a Halfshell". Caird won in the same Leo Award category in 2005 for his work on the season. In the same year, the season was nominated for Favorite Cartoon at the Kids' Choice Awards. This was the last major animated TV series to use traditional cel animation. In 2004, when the show was renewed for two new seasons, the animators switched over to digital ink-and-paint.
The surnameEddy is used by descendants of a number of English, Irish and Scottish families.
Etymology
Frank R. Holmes, in his Directory of the Ancestral Heads of New England Families, 1600-1700, proposes two possible origins; the Gaeliceddee, "instructor", or from the Saxoned and ea, "backwards" and "water", a whirlpool or eddy, making the surname Eddy a place-name. Another possible origin is the Saxon root ead, "success" or "prosperity". Ead occurs in numerous commonly used names, as Edgar, Edmund, Edward, Edwin, and the outdated Edwy. John Eddy of Taunton spells the name Eddway in the earliest record so far found. Eddy could also be a diminutive of any one of these names. Robert Ferguson, in his work on English Surnames, believes that Eddy is a place-name: “Eday, Eady, Eddy are from ead, prosperity. Hence the name of the rock Eddiston, on which the celebrated light house is built. From this word are compounded a great number of Anglo-Saxon names of which we have Edward, Edmund, Edgar,Edw Edwin.”
In 1995 he came in contact with friend and rapper Nouba. They began to exchange ideas, and they found that they had much in common. That same year the group Cabo Funk Alliance was formed (with Eddy, Alee, Aureon, Jay B & Angel and Nouba). This group was seen as the first controversial Cape Verdean rap group. During that same period, there were also other rap and RnB groups in the Cape Verdean scene, such as Tha Real Vibe, Quatro, and others.
Also in 1995 came the first (and only) album of Cabo Funk Alliance, Hoje ê Kel Dia. It brought a lot of fuss for breaking the "barrier" of traditional music.
