Echolalia (also known as echologia or echophrasia) is defined as the unsolicited repetition of vocalizations made by another person (by the same person is called palilalia). In its full blown form it is automatic and effortless. It is one of the echophenomena, closely related to echopraxia, the automatic repetition of movements made by another person; both are "subsets of imitative behavior" whereby sounds or actions are imitated "without explicit awareness". Echolalia may be an immediate reaction to a stimulus or may be delayed.
The word "echolalia" is derived from the Greekἠχώ, meaning "echo" or "to repeat", and λαλιά (laliá) meaning "speech" or "talk" (of onomatopoeic origin, from the verb λαλέω (laléo), meaning "to talk").
Signs and symptoms
Echolalia can be categorized as immediate (occurring immediately after the stimulus) vs. delayed (some time after the occurrence of a stimulus). Immediate echolalia results from quick recall of information from the short-term memory and "superficial linguistic processing". A typical pediatric presentation of immediate echolalia might be as follows: a child is asked "Do you want dinner?"; the child echoes back "Do you want dinner?", followed by a pause, and then a response, "Yes. What's for dinner?"
In delayed echolalia the patient repeats words, phrases, or multiple sentences after a delay that can be anywhere from hours to years later. Immediate Echolalia can be indicative that a developmental disorder exists, but this is not necessarily the case. Sometimes Echolalia can be observed when an individual echos back a statement to indicate they are contemplating a response and fully heard the original statement.
Echolalia is the third studio album by Australian alternative rock band Something for Kate which was released on 22 June 2001. It was issued in the United States and a limited edition US included a second disc titled "Past and Present Tension". The second disc included past songs and singles, as well as some live versions of their older songs. In October 2010, Echolalia was listed in the top40 in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums.

Winterpills are an American indie rock band from Northampton, Massachusetts, United States. Its members are Philip Price, Flora Reed, Dave Hower, Dennis Crommett and Max Germer, sometimes joined on tour and in studio by Brian Akey, José Ayerve and Henning Ohlenbusch. They released their debut eponymous album in November 2005 on Signature Sounds, and their second album on the same label was released February 27, 2007, titled "The Light Divides". Their third album, "Central Chambers", was released on October 14, 2008, also on Signature Sounds, and a vinyl 7" single of Broken Arm/A Folded Cloth was released in the UK on February 4, 2009 on Riot Act Records. "Central Chambers" was also released on vinyl on January 13, 2009. A 6-song EP, "Tuxedo of Ashes", was released on October 5, 2010. Their fifth release is "All My Lovely Goners", released on February 14, 2012, and the double-LP vinyl version was released on April 21, 2012.
History
As veteran musicians of the Northampton indie music scene, the five members of Winterpills formed from a group of friends "hanging out at Dennis [Crommett]'s house" into a band in the winter of 2003. They began playing out regionally in New England the following spring, and released their eponymous album in 2005. Winterpills was received warmly by critics—garnering comparisons to The Byrds, Simon and Garfunkel, and Elliott Smith—and landed in the Top 100 for both iTunes and Amazon.com. The band carved out a sound characterized by acoustic folk-pop, male-female harmonies, and melancholic songwriting by Price.

Winterpills - Want The Want
a whispered curse under his breath
a whispered prayer over a death
a sunrise blotted out by cloud
a mother sleeping by the shroud
a poison word that's never said.
a simple frame above the bed.
a poison word will not deceive.
you don't believe what you believe.
you want the want.
you want the want
(if it doesn't kill you first
it might just drive you mad)
the vision doesn't disappoint
the ghost is lighting up a joint
the fickle crowd has gone to sleep
you're ready now to take the leap
you want the want.
you want the want.
you want the want.
you want the want.
(if it doesn't kill you first
it might just drive you mad)

Signs and symptoms
Echolalia can be categorized as immediate (occurring immediately after the stimulus) vs. delayed (some time after the occurrence of a stimulus). Immediate echolalia results from quick recall of information from the short-term memory and "superficial linguistic processing". A typical pediatric presentation of immediate echolalia might be as follows: a child is asked "Do you want dinner?"; the child echoes back "Do you want dinner?", followed by a pause, and then a response, "Yes. Tumor, who got their start in the electronic music scene, has veered into glam-rock territory with their past few albums ... In the chorus, Tumor sings ... “Echolalia” is one of the stand-out tracks from the album ... It’s never obvious where Tumor will go.
“Echolalia” by Yves Tumor ... The definition of echolalia is “the meaningless repetition of words just spoken by another person.” It normally occurs in children, and along with certain conditions like Tourette’s and autism.
