An estate agent is a person or business that arranges the selling, renting or management of properties, and other buildings, in the United Kingdom and Ireland. An agent that specialises in renting is often called a letting or management agent. Estate agents are mainly engaged in the marketing of property available for sale and a solicitor or licensed conveyancer is used to prepare the legal documents. In Scotland, however, many solicitors also act as estate agents, a practice that is rare in England and Wales.
The estate agent remains the current title for the person responsible for the management of one group of privately owned, all or mostly tenanted, properties under one ownership. Alternative titles are Factor, Steward or Bailiff depending on the era, the region and the extent of the property concerned.
Origin
The term originally referred to a person responsible for managing a landed estate, while those engaged in the buying and selling of homes were "House Agents", and those selling land were "Land Agents". However, in the 20th century, "Estate Agent" started to be used as a generic term. Estate agent is roughly synonymous with the United States term real estate broker.
Dumbleton is situated on the edge of Dumbleton Hill, a foothill of the Cotswolds and is situated within the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Dumbleton is mainly residential, although there is a local shop, an Infants’ School, a Social Club, a Village Hall, and an Estate Office. The village also contains the main entrance to Dumbleton Hall, which now functions as a hotel.
Parish Church
St Peter's Church is of Norman origin with mainly 13th-century additions. The chancel was rebuilt in 1862.
In 1960 it was designated a Grade I Listed Building.
The travel writer Patrick Leigh Fermor is buried in the churchyard with his wife Joan (née Eyres Monsell) and brother-in-law Lord Monsell; the merchant banker and political fundraiser Lord Hambro is also buried there. Inside St Peter's Church is a memorial to Arctic explorer Gino Watkins. A large painted monument dedicated to Sir Charles Percy son of the Earl of Northumberland and Dorothy Cocks, his wife, is also to be found within the church. The colourful monument of two figures kneeling over their deceased child is situated within a deep round-headed niche flanked by free-standing Corinthian columns.
In the 2011 census the population of the Leicester unitary authority was c.330,000 making it the most populous unitary authority in the East Midlands region. The associated urban area is also the 11th largest by population in England and the 13th largest in the United Kingdom.
"Unlike almost every other city in the UK, Leicester has retained a remarkable record of its past in buildings that still stand today".
Ancient Roman pavements and baths remain in Leicester from its early settlement as Ratae, a Roman military outpost in a region inhabited by the Celtic Corieltauvi tribe. Following the Roman withdrawal from Britain, the early medieval Ratae is shrouded in obscurity, but when the settlement was captured by the Danes it became one of five fortified towns important to the Danelaw and it appeared in the Domesday Book as "Ledecestre". Leicester continued to grow throughout the Early Modern period as a market town, although it was the Industrial Revolution that facilitated a process of rapid unplanned urbanisation in the area.
HM Prison Leicester is a local men's prison, located in the Southfields area of Leicester, Leicestershire, England. The term 'local' means that the prison holds people on remand to the local courts, as well as sentenced prisoners. Leicester Prison is operated by Her Majesty's Prison Service, and is situated immediately north of Nelson Mandela Park (formerly Welford Road Recreation Ground), a sign in which quotes Nelson Mandela: "There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere".
History
The prison was designed by Leicester county surveyor William Parsons to resemble a castle and cost £20,000. The oldest part dates from 1825, and it was opened in 1828. The gatehouse including the adjoining building to north and south and the perimeter wall are grade II listed.
Between 1900 and 1953, eight executions took place at the prison. The last was that of John Reynolds, convicted of murder at Leicester Assizes, and hanged on November 17, 1953.
Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Station (Leicester, New York)
The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Station, built during the years 1907-1908 at a cost of $ 601,780.96 in the Neo-Classical Revival style by the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Company, is one of the most impressive buildings in Scranton. The architects of the station were Kenneth Murchison of New York and Edward Langley of Scranton, while the designer was Lincoln Bush, chief engineer of the railroad company. The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad was one of the most important railroads in the northeast region of Pennsylvania. Its beginnings date back to 1832 and the Ligget's Gap Railroad, later the Lackawanna & Western, and the Delaware & Cobb's Gap Railroad. These two lines merged in 1853 to form the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad, while the Erie-Lackawanna was not formed until 1960 from the merger of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western with the Erie. Anthracite coal was a major factor in the growth of the railroad, and by 1925 the company owned or controlled through lease nearly all coal underlying West Scranton and had also acquired large areas in other parts of the county as well as in Luzerne County. The profits from the mining and transportation of coal enabled the company to construct such an impressive station as the one at Scranton.
Knightsbridge is an exclusive residential and retail district in central London, south of Hyde Park. It is identified in the London Plan as one of two international retail centres in London, alongside the West End.
In the time of Edward I, the manor of Knightsbridge appertained to the abbey of Westminster. It was named after a crossing of the River Westbourne, which is now an underground river. It is recorded that the citizens of London met Matilda of England at the Knight's Bridge in 1141.
From 1885 to 1887, as a result of the opening of trade between Britain and the Far East, Humphreys' Hall in Knightsbridge hosted an exhibition of Japanese culture in a setting built to resemble a traditional Japanese village. The exhibition was very popular, with over 250,000 visitors during its early months. Japanese artisans illustrated "the manners, customs, and art-industries of their country, attired in their national and picturesque costumes. Magnificently decorated and illuminated Buddhist temple. Five o’clock tea in the Japanese tea-house. Japanese Musical and other Entertainments. Every-day Life as in Japan".W.S. Gilbert and his wife attended the exhibition, which is said to have inspired him to write The Mikado. When the Mikado requests of Ko-Ko the address of his son (Nanki-Poo) after Ko-Ko tells the Mikado that Nanki-Poo has "gone abroad," Ko-Ko replies that Nanki-Poo has gone to Knightsbridge.

What is a Real Estate Agent?
A real estate agent (also known as a real estate salesperson in some states) is a professionally licensed individual representing a buyer and/or seller in a real estate transaction. Real estate agents are compensated with a commission for their services, which is a negotiated percentage of the property's sale price (normally 6% paid by the seller).
What is a Real Estate Broker?
A real estate broker is a real estate professional who has acquired a broker license. In most states, one must hold an active real estate license for two years and attain further education to acquire a broker's license.
What is a Realtor?
A REALTOR® is a real estate professional who is an active member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). This national organization fosters and promotes best practices in the real estate industry.
The Relationship Between Real Estate Agents and Brokers
In many states, the real estate industry generally organizes the tiers of real estate licensees into two groups:
Real estate agents are typically known as the lower-credentialed group.
Real estate brokers are typically known as the more-credentialed group.
In these states, a real estate agent is required to hold their license, operate underneath a real estate broker or brokerage, and then pay a portion of their commissions to that broker in exchange for operating under their license. The broker will also commonly provide the agent with supplemental training, support, and resources.
This two-tier system is set up so that the higher-credentialed real estate broker can oversee the actions of a less-experienced agent.
Commission splits between agents and brokers are typically between 80/20 to 50/50, depending on how much value the broker brings to the relationship.
Some real estate agents who qualify for the broker’s exam may choose to remain as agents to avoid the additional responsibilities associated with having a broker’s license.
A real estate broker can conduct all the same activities as a real estate agent but they aren’t required to operate under anyone else to conduct business. Furthermore, if a broker makes a commission for servicing a sales transaction, they can keep the entire commission. Many real estate agents ultimately choose to obtain their broker status simply to avoid commission splits.
In other states, all real estate professionals licensed to sell real estate are technically labeled real estate brokers. Still, the higher-credentialed brokers are designated as managing brokers and are required to have at least two years of active experience and additional education.
In these states, it’s common for the layperson to refer to non-managing brokers as “real estate agents.”
A managing broker manages a non-managing real estate broker in the same way that a real estate broker manages a real estate agent in a two-tiered state.
In commercial real estate, whether a person is licensed as a real estate agent or broker, it’s customary to refer to all licensed professionals as real estate brokers and refer to the more-credentialed tier as managing brokers.

What is a Real Estate Agent?
A real estate agent (also known as a real estate salesperson in some states) is a professionally licensed individual representing a buyer and/or seller in a real estate transaction. Real estate agents are compensated with a commission for their services, which is a negotiated percentage of the property's sale price (normally 6% paid by the seller).
What is a Real Estate Broker?
A real estate broker is a real estate professional who has acquired a broker license. In most states, one must hold an active real estate license for two years and attain further education to acquire a broker's license.
What is a Realtor?
A REALTOR® is a real estate professional who is an active member of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). This national organization fosters and promotes best practices in the real estate industry.
The Relationship Between Real Estate Agents and Brokers
In many states, the real estate industry generally organizes the tiers of real estate licensees into two groups:
Real estate agents are typically known as the lower-credentialed group.
Real estate brokers are typically known as the more-credentialed group.
In these states, a real estate agent is required to hold their license, operate underneath a real estate broker or brokerage, and then pay a portion of their commissions to that broker in exchange for operating under their license. The broker will also commonly provide the agent with supplemental training, support, and resources.
This two-tier system is set up so that the higher-credentialed real estate broker can oversee the actions of a less-experienced agent.
Commission splits between agents and brokers are typically between 80/20 to 50/50, depending on how much value the broker brings to the relationship.
Some real estate agents who qualify for the broker’s exam may choose to remain as agents to avoid the additional responsibilities associated with having a broker’s license.
A real estate broker can conduct all the same activities as a real estate agent but they aren’t required to operate under anyone else to conduct business. Furthermore, if a broker makes a commission for servicing a sales transaction, they can keep the entire commission. Many real estate agents ultimately choose to obtain their broker status simply to avoid commission splits.
In other states, all real estate professionals licensed to sell real estate are technically labeled real estate brokers. Still, the higher-credentialed brokers are designated as managing brokers and are required to have at least two years of active experience and additional education.
In these states, it’s common for the layperson to refer to non-managing brokers as “real estate agents.”
A managing broker manages a non-managing real estate broker in the same way that a real estate broker manages a real estate agent in a two-tiered state.
In commercial real estate, whether a person is licensed as a real estate agent or broker, it’s customary to refer to all licensed professionals as real estate brokers and refer to the more-credentialed tier as managing brokers.

An estate agent is a person or business that arranges the selling, renting or management of properties, and other buildings, in the United Kingdom and Ireland. An agent that specialises in renting is often called a letting or management agent. Estate agents are mainly engaged in the marketing of property available for sale and a solicitor or licensed conveyancer is used to prepare the legal documents. In Scotland, however, many solicitors also act as estate agents, a practice that is rare in England and Wales.
The estate agent remains the current title for the person responsible for the management of one group of privately owned, all or mostly tenanted, properties under one ownership. Alternative titles are Factor, Steward or Bailiff depending on the era, the region and the extent of the property concerned.
Origin
The term originally referred to a person responsible for managing a landed estate, while those engaged in the buying and selling of homes were "House Agents", and those selling land were "Land Agents". However, in the 20th century, "Estate Agent" started to be used as a generic term. Estate agent is roughly synonymous with the United States term real estate broker.
