Doctor Syn (1937)
Elderly clergyman Dr. Syn (George Arliss) is one of the most respected members of a tiny coastal community, but few of the locals have any idea that Syn was once known to the world as Captain Clegg, a merciless swashbuckler who viciously defended his wife, Imogen (Margaret Lockwood). Unbeknown to his friends and neighbors, Syn is still masterminding a looting operation -- but this time he's using the stolen goods to improve his town. Unfortunately, the authorities may be on to the old man.

Russell Thorndike's original Doctor Syn novel depicted the final days of the Pirate-turned-Parson, with the genteel cleric revealed as a sinister villain. Such was the character's popularity that Thorndike went back and wrote a whole series of novels depicting Syn as a more benign - though just as dangerous - figure. Naturally enough, when BBC broadcast their readings of the books, the presented them in chronological order, leaving the original to the end. It was broadcast under the title 'The Last of Dr Syn', but I'm listing it here (as with the others) under the title of the book itself.

Walt Disney's "The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh" Part 1 Season 10 Ep 18
From Season 10 of Walt Disney's Disneyland Anthology program we have Episode 18: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, Part 1 which originally aired on February 9th, 1964. Dr. Christopher Syn (alias, The Scarecrow) disrupts England's King George III's 1763 taxation on imports by smuggling vast quantities of goods into the country. Set on the coast near Kent and Sussex, the British troops who attempt to enforce the law are met with a formidable group led by the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. The three episodes were released theatrically overseas under the title Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow in 1963. The U.S. saw a theatrical release in 1975. The popular theme song was written by Terry Gilkyson who composed great Disney songs like Thomasina and The Bare Necessities.

From Season 10 of Walt Disney's Disneyland Anthology program we have Episode 18: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, Part 1 which originally aired on February 9th, 1964. Dr. Christopher Syn (alias, The Scarecrow) disrupts England's King George III's 1763 taxation on imports by smuggling vast quantities of goods into the country. Set on the coast near Kent and Sussex, the British troops who attempt to enforce the law are met with a formidable group led by the Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. The three episodes were released theatrically overseas under the title Dr. Syn, Alias the Scarecrow in 1963. The U.S. saw a theatrical release in 1975. The popular theme song was written by Terry Gilkyson who composed great Disney songs like Thomasina and The Bare Necessities.
