Directive (European Union)

A directive is a legal act of the European Union, which requires member states to achieve a particular result without dictating the means of achieving that result. It can be distinguished from regulations which are self-executing and do not require any implementing measures. Directives normally leave member states with a certain amount of leeway as to the exact rules to be adopted. Directives can be adopted by means of a variety of legislative procedures depending on their subject matter.

Legal basis

The legal basis for the enactment of directives is Article 288 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (formerly Article 249 TEC).

To exercise the Union's competences, the institutions shall adopt regulations, directives, decisions, recommendations and opinions.

A regulation shall have general application. It shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.

A directive shall be binding, as to the result to be achieved, upon each Member State to which it is addressed, but shall leave to the national authorities the choice of form and methods.

The Data Protection Directive (officially Directive 95/46/EC on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data) is a European Union directive adopted in 1995 which regulates the processing of personal data within the European Union. It is an important component of EU privacy and human rights law. This chemistry crafted between the team's managers and athletes produced a superset of athletes who every single week punched outside their weight class. Through various incarnations, the team was a revolving door. A kind of incubation chamber where it's youthful racers would reach their highest strengths and ready themselves to become the world's best, maintaining that fine balance of total dedication and a pure love for cycling. At its end, the team has disbanded, seeing all athletes move on to new homes for the 2025 season. The mark left won't be soon forgotten and the way it felt to watch the team both on the track and off is the truth of what DH is meant to be.

The Union was a team who's every piece summed what DH racing is meant to be. Raw, brash, youthful and talented with just enough handling to keep everyone in line while keeping the fun alive and the energy high. You could call it a development team, but that undersells what the team was able to achieve. This chemistry crafted between the team's managers and athletes produced a superset of athletes who every single week punched outside their weight class. Through various incarnations, the team was a revolving door. A kind of incubation chamber where it's youthful racers would reach their highest strengths and ready themselves to become the world's best, maintaining that fine balance of total dedication and a pure love for cycling. At its end, the team has disbanded, seeing all athletes move on to new homes for the 2025 season. The mark left won't be soon forgotten and the way it felt to watch the team both on the track and off is the truth of what DH is meant to be.

A directive is a legal act of the European Union, which requires member states to achieve a particular result without dictating the means of achieving that result. It can be distinguished from regulations which are self-executing and do not require any implementing measures. Directives normally leave member states with a certain amount of leeway as to the exact rules to be adopted. Directives can be adopted by means of a variety of legislative procedures depending on their subject matter.

Legal basis

The legal basis for the enactment of directives is Article 288 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (formerly Article 249 TEC).

To exercise the Union's competences, the institutions shall adopt regulations, directives, decisions, recommendations and opinions.

A regulation shall have general application. It shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.

A directive shall be binding, as to the result to be achieved, upon each Member State to which it is addressed, but shall leave to the national authorities the choice of form and methods.
