South Yorkshire County Council was abolished in 1986 and its metropolitan boroughs are now effectively unitary authorities, although the metropolitan county continues to exist in law. As a ceremonial county, South Yorkshire has a Lord Lieutenant and a High Sheriff.
The area is now included in the Yorkshire and the Humber European Parliament Constituency, which was represented by seven members in 1999-2004 and six from 2004 onwards.
Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Dinnington is the principal settlement in the civil parish of Dinnington St John's, which also includes the small satellite hamlets of Throapham and St John's. The Dinnington St John's parish is the most populous constituent of the St John's ward, which also includes the parishes of Laughton-en-le-Morthen, Firbeck, Letwell and Gildingwells. In 2001 this ward had a population of 11,476, with Dinnington St John's itself making up 9,161 of that figure. Dinnington is about 330 feet (101m) above sea level.
History
Excavations show Dinnington to have been inhabited since at least Neolithic times, and it has been suggested that the settlement takes its name from a local barrow, though a more traditional interpretation of "Dinnington" would be "Dunn's Farmstead", or "Town of Dunn's People".
Yorkshire (/ˈjɔːrkʃər/ or /ˈjɔːrkʃɪər/) is a historic county of Northern England and the largest in the United Kingdom. Due to its great size in comparison to other English counties, functions have been undertaken over time by its subdivisions, which have also been subject to periodic reform. Throughout these changes, Yorkshire has continued to be recognised as a geographical territory and cultural region. The name is familiar and well understood across the United Kingdom and is in common use in the media and the military, and also features in the titles of current areas of civil administration such as North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Riding of Yorkshire.
Within the borders of the historic county of Yorkshire are areas which are widely considered to be among the greenest in England, due to the vast stretches of unspoiled countryside in the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors and to the open aspect of some of the major cities. Yorkshire has sometimes been nicknamed "God's Own County" or "God's Own Country".
In the redistribution which took effect for the 1868 general election the two divisions were redistributed into three. Eastern West Riding of Yorkshire was created and the Northern and Southern divisions modified. Each of the three divisions returned two members.
Dinnington High St Rotherham Sheffield South Yorkshire post lockdown and redevelopment in the future
I forgot to mention having a hybrid super tram into Sheffield carrying the 25,000 people in the area on the existing rail network. Also the missed opportunity to turn Rother Valley into a mining museum and sports centre.

Dinnington Sheffield High St ground Zero before the £12 million investment in the Market Square.
This was supposed to be a busy Market day on a relatively warm day. This is how bad things have become since the closure of the banks and lockdown. Previously I have done a tour on a Sunday, but I wanted you to see the full extent of shops open. The levelling up money was supposed to be £12 million, but dropped to £11 million. There will be a further £1 million in consultancy fees. I have little regard for the consultancy or that it will ever happen.
