Ímar (Old Norse:Ívarr; died c. 873) was a Viking leader in Ireland and Scotland in the mid-late ninth century who founded the Uí Ímair dynasty, and whose descendants would go on to dominate the Irish Sea region for several centuries. He was the son of the king of Lochlann, identified in the non-contemporary Fragmentary Annals of Ireland as Gofraid. The Fragmentary Annals name Auisle and Amlaíb Conung as his brothers. Another Viking leader, Halfdan Ragnarsson, is considered by some scholars to be another brother. The Irish Annals title Amlaíb, Ímar and Auisle "kings of the foreigners". Modern scholars use the title "kings of Dublin" after the Viking settlement which formed the base of their power. Some scholars consider Ímar to be identical to Ivar the Boneless, a Viking commander of the Great Heathen Army named in contemporary English sources who also appears in the Icelandic sagas as a son of the legendary Viking Ragnar Lodbrok.
The Gospel According to Mark (Greek:τὸ κατὰ Μᾶρκον εὐαγγέλιον, to kata Markon euangelion), the second book of the New Testament, is one of the four canonical gospels and the three synoptic gospels. It was traditionally thought to be an epitome (summary) of Matthew, which accounts for its place as the second gospel in the Bible, but most scholars now regard it as the earliest of the gospels. Most modern scholars reject the tradition which ascribes it to Mark the Evangelist, the companion of Peter, and regard it as the work of an unknown author working with various sources including collections of miracle stories, controversy stories, parables, and a passion narrative.
Mark tells of the ministry of Jesus from his baptism by John the Baptist to his death and burial and the discovery of the empty tomb– there is no genealogy or birth narrative, nor, in the original ending at chapter 16, any post-resurrection appearances. It portrays Jesus as a heroic man of action, an exorcist, healer and miracle worker. Jesus is also the Son of God, but he keeps his identity secret, concealing it in parables so that even the disciples fail to understand. All this is in keeping with prophecy, which foretold the fate of the messiah as Suffering Servant. The gospel ends, in its original version, with the discovery of the empty tomb, a promise to meet again in Galilee, and an unheeded instruction to spread the good news of the resurrection.
The maras (Dolichotis) are a genus of the cavy family. They are the sole representatives of the subfamily Dolichotinae. These large relatives of guinea pigs are common in the Patagonian steppes of Argentina, but also live in Paraguay and elsewhere in South America. Maras are the fourth-largest rodent in the world, after capybaras, beavers, and porcupines, reaching about 45cm (18in) in height.
Two species of maras are recognised, the Patagonian mara (Dolichotis patagonum), and the Chacoan mara (Dolichotis salinicola).
Dolichotis means ‘long-earred’ (from dolicho- ‘long’ + ōt- ‘ear’) in Ancient Greek.
Description
Maras have stocky bodies, three sharp-clawed digits on the hind feet, and four digits of the fore feet. Maras have been described as resembling long-legged rabbits. Patagonian maras can run at speeds up to 29km (18mi) per hour. They can weigh over 11kg (24lb) in adulthood.
Most maras have brown heads and bodies, dark (almost black) rumps with a white fringe around the base, and white bellies.
Heaven is the third album released by brother and sister duo BeBe & CeCe Winans and their second released on Capitol Records. It was number one on the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart.
Smooth jazz musician Lonnie Liston Smith covered the title song from his 1990 album, Love Goddess
Nirvāṇa (/nɪərˈvɑːnə, -ˈvænə, nər-/;Sanskrit:निर्वाणnirvāṇa[nirʋaːɳə]; Pali:निब्बानnibbāna; Prakrit:णिव्वाणṇivvāṇa) literally means "blown out", as in a candle. It is most commonly associated with Buddhism.
In the Buddhist context, nirvana refers to the imperturbable stillness of mind after the fires of desire, aversion, and delusion have been finally extinguished. In Hindu philosophy, it is the union with Brahman, the divine ground of existence, and the experience of blissful egolessness.
In Indian religions, the attainment of nirvana is moksha, liberation from samsara, the repeating cycle of birth, life and death.
Etymology
The word nirvāṇa is from the verbal root √vā “blow” in the form of past participle vāna “blown”, prefixed with the preverb nis meaning “out”. Hence the original meaning of the word is “blown out, extinguished”. Sandhi changes the spelling: the v of vāna causes nis to become nir, and then the r of nir causes retroflexion of the following n: nis+vāna > nirvāṇa. The term is used in the sense of “dead” in the Mahābhārata (i.e. “life extinguished”). [Monier-Williams Sanskrit English Dictionary sv nirvāṇa]
"Heaven (Must Be There)" (sometimes shortened to just "Heaven") is a song by Eurogliders from their album This Island. The song was released as a 7" vinyl and a 12" in May 1984.
The single brought the band to fame, especially in Australia, where the single peaked at No.2 on Kent Music Report Singles Chart in 1984. It was also a major hit in New Zealand, peaking at No.6, and a more modest hit in North America, hitting No.47 in Canada, and No.65 in the US.
Dimension Shampoo was a heavily perfumed shampoo product, which was produced in the early 1980s. This was by the personal products division of Lever Brothers, and marketed by Ogilvy. The shampoo came in a distinctive dark yellow bottle, and left a strong muskone and civetone aroma on the hair. There was also a companion conditioner marketed with this product. It has been stated by many previous users of dimension shampoo that it caused their hair to fall out, due to the extreme astringency of the product.
On April 18, 1985, Lever Brothers reorganized their marketing structure and moved their personal products division business to J. Walter Thompson.
At the time, Dimension was a highly popular brand. (Lever spent an estimated $12.5M in advertising the brand in 1984.) However, shortly after Lever's marketing reorganization, Dimension ran-out on store shelves, and never returned. Lever Brothers never made any public explanation for the disappearance of the product; although they referred to the marketing reorganization as a consolidation of the personal products brands, and stated that the decision in-part had to do with its plans for international marketing.
