How Economics (Not Technology) Will Save Our Climate
Examines the sustainability challenges of developing countries through Southeast Asia's case study. Gita highlights the elitism pervading global sustainability discussions. He advocates for a comprehensive strategy that combines technological innovation with economic capital allocation—aiming to make renewable energy more accessible while boosting population purchasing power.

Global Development Explained
The world is healthier and wealthier today than ever before. As the world becomes more connected and technologically advanced, some countries have made drastic improvements in life expectancy and economic growth. Many have implemented economic policies that encourage trade and others also receive developmental assistance from larger countries that see strategic value in providing aid. But other countries, especially those that have experienced political instability, natural disasters, and long-term domestic conflict, have seen less improvement. Development is a hard concept to define and its trends depend on many factors, that is why the United Nations launched its list of Sustainable Development Goals, a new environmentally friendly and inclusive framework for countries to develop.

2024 was another year marked by extreme weather events, armed conflict, wealth gaps and poverty across the world, prompting the World Bank to take further steps to address these global challenges. As part of that effort, it has named Kim Sang-bu as the Vice President for Digital Transformation, a newly-created post aimed at bridging the digital divide between the developed and developing worlds.
In doing so, Kim Sang-bu has become the first Korean national to take on a senior position at the World Bank having previously worked with the Korean government and as Asia-Pacific Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Consumer Products at Google.
In this year-end special edition of the Globalists, we sit down with World Bank Vice President Kim Sang-bu to learn about his extensive career in the digital sector and how he plans to utilize the World Bank’s resources to tackle some of the globe’s most pressing issues.
[The Globalists]
