Eric Johnson (born August 17, 1954) is an American guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist from Austin, Texas. Best known for his electric guitar skills, Johnson is also a highly proficient acoustic, lap steel, resonator, and bass guitarist as well as an accomplished pianist and vocalist.
Born into a musically inclined family, Eric and his three sisters studied piano and his father was a whistling enthusiast. Johnson started learning the guitar at age 11 and rapidly began progressing through the music that would heavily influence his future style, including Mike Bloomfield, Chet Atkins, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Ric Bailey, Wes Montgomery, Jerry Reed, Bob Dylan, and Django Reinhardt, among others. At the age of 15, he joined his first professional band—Mariani, a psychedelic rock group. In 1968, Johnson and the group recorded a demo, which saw extremely limited release; years later the recording became a prized collector's item.
Eric Johnson (born August 20, 1953) is an American politician that served in the Georgia State Senate representing the 1st District. The 1st Senate District comprises Bryan, Chatham and Liberty Counties. He recently resigned his Senate seat after 17 years in the Georgia General Assembly. He was a candidate for Governor of Georgia, looking to succeed term-limited Sonny Perdue in 2010.
A Republican, he was first elected as a House member in 1992 and elected as the State Senator in 1994. He was reelected to the State Senate in 1996. His colleagues voted him as the Minority Leader in 1998 and served until 2003. In 2003 following the 2002 election of the first Republican Governor in over 130 years, several Democrats changed parties and Republicans gained the State Senate majority. Eric was elected as the Senate President Pro Tempore. He essentially served as the de facto Lieutenant Governor. The Republican-majority stripped the power of then-Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor (Democrat). The power of the Lieutenant Governor was restored back to current Lieutenant Governor Casey Cagle in 2007.
Desert Rose is the third track in AmericanguitaristEric Johnson's albumAh Via Musicom. Originally released in 1990, the song has become one of Johnson's most popular pieces. It was one of the album's four vocal numbers, the other three being "Nothing Can Keep Me from You", "High Landrons" and "Forty Mile Town". His other popular works include many instrumentals like "Cliffs of Dover", which won a Grammy Award, and is arguably his most famous piece.
Eric Johnson recorded the song in A-flat major, in 4/4 time.
Eric Johnson also is known as one of the worlds top ten guitar virtuosos and "Cliffs of Dover" and "Desert Rose" are examples of him at his best.
Adenium obesum is grown as a houseplant in temperate regions. Numerous hybrids have been developed. Adeniums are appreciated for their colorful flowers, but also for their unusual, thick caudices. They can be grown for many years in a pot and are commonly used for bonsai.
Because seed-grown plants are not genetically identical to the mother plant, desirable varieties are commonly propagated by grafting. Genetically identical plants can also be propagated by cutting. However, cutting-grown plants do not tend to develop a desirable thick caudex as quickly as seed-grown plants.
The genus Adenium has been held to contain as many as twelve species. These are considered by other authors to be subspecies or varieties. A late-20th-century classification by Plazier recognizes five species.
Eric was born to Jack and Rachell Johnson and raised in the Spokane Valley. Eric attended East Valley High School and majored in broadcasting in the Edward R. Murrow School of Communications at Washington State University. He also played baseball at WSU as a pitcher (he says with very limited success).
Broadcasting career
Eric Johnson began his broadcasting career in 1984 at KTVB 7 in Boise, Idaho, serving as the station's weekend sports anchor. Two years later, he was promoted into the role of sports director at rival station KBCI-TV (now KBOI 2). From 1987 to 1989, he served in the same capacity at Spokane's KREM 2, then he moved to sister station KGW 8 in Portland, Oregon, where he remained until 1993.
Upon arriving at KOMO 4 in 1993, he initially started out as the station's weekend sports anchor, replacing longtime KOMO sportscaster Rick Meeder and fill-in sports anchor Bob Rondeau. In 1994, he created a popular segment titled "Eric's Little Heroes", which focuses on the athletic plight of Seattle-area children in Little League games across the area, and is presented in an off-the-wall and humorous fashion. (In 2006, Eric's Little Heroes was discontinued, until strong viewer support brought the feature back in early 2008).
Johnson wasn't selected in Norwood's 1925 premiership team, during his first league season, but was a member of their premiership side in 1929. He captained Norwood to a grand final in 1933, from fourth in the ladder, but they lost to West Torrens. A rover, he represented the South Australian interstate team on one occasion.
As a right handed batsman, Johnson played in six first-class cricket matches for South Australia. He had a modest record, only scoring 141 runs in ten completed innings, with a highest score of just 28. He took part in South Australia's 1927/28 and 1928/29 Sheffield Shield campaigns.
Soon after his football playing career ended, Johnson was appointed Norwood's treasurer, a role he would hold for almost 40 years.
