Deposition occurs when the forces responsible for sediment transportation are no longer sufficient to overcome the forces of gravity and friction, creating a resistance to motion, this is known as the null-point hypothesis. Deposition can also refer to the buildup of sediment from organically derived matter or chemical processes. For example, chalk is made up partly of the microscopic calcium carbonate skeletons of marine plankton, the deposition of which has induced chemical processes (diagenesis) to deposit further calcium carbonate. Similarly, the formation of coal begins with deposition of organic material, mainly from plants, in anaerobic conditions.
The Deposition or Lamentation over the Dead Christ was a painting by the Flemish painter Anthony van Dyck, produced between 1629 and 1630. It measured 220cm by 166cm. Its final owners were the Kaiser Friedrich Museum then the Gemäldegalerie, Berlin, before it was lost (either missing or destroyed) in May 1945 in the Friedrichshain flak tower fire. A copy of the work is now in the Gedächtniskapelle of the Deutschordensmünster in Heilbronn.
Christopher Norris, 'The Disaster at Flakturm Friedrichshain; A Chronicle and List of Paintings', Burlington Magazine, Vol. 94, No. 597 (Dec., 1952), pp.337–347
The deposition (from Latindepositio cornuum, "taking off the horns") was a semi-official initiation ritual which was common at universities throughout Europe from the Middle Ages until the 18th century. The ritual was introduced at German universities in the late 15th century, probably from the influential University of Paris. Models may have included the Freisprechung ritual in artisan guilds, where apprentices were admitted to the status of journeymen.
Purpose
A basis for the deposition was the idea that the arriving student was still wild and unpolished before his immatriculation – like an animal – and had to be relieved of the signs of his uncivilised state before he could be accepted as part of the University. The student only had to go through the deposition once in his life; he would receive a deposition certificate ("Depositionsschein" in German) which he could show in case of transferring to another university.
The deposition consisted of scolding, in which the unworthiness of the new student would be clarified to him, in ritual removal of animal-like artificial body parts with the help of over-dimensioned tools, as well as beating and other abuse, which would have the function of a purification ritual.

Observe how sediments are deposited
This animation shows a side view of an area where a river flows into a lake. As flowing water enters the lake, its velocity decreases. The water's ability to carry sediments also decreases. Sediments carried by the stream are deposited where the slowing water can no longer move them. The largest sediments are deposited near the shore. Increasingly smaller sediments settle out farther from the shore where the water is calmer.

Deposition (geology)
Deposition is the geological process in which sediments, soil and rocks are added to a landform or land mass. Wind, ice, and water, as well as sediment flowing via gravity, transport previously eroded sediment, which, at the loss of enough kinetic energy in the fluid, is deposited, building up layers of sediment.

Video obtained by CBS News provides the first look at former President Donald Trump's deposition last summer in the New York attorney general's civil fraud investigation. Trump sat for questioning under oath on Aug. 10. After preliminary procedural questions from state Attorney General Letitia James, Trump makes an opening statement calling the probe "very unfair." In these excerpts, he then repeatedly takes the Fifth Amendment, refusing to answer any questions at all, including about his and his company's finances.

The depositions of Gwyneth Paltrow’s children were read aloud in court Tuesday. Apple and Moses Martin both offered their recollection of events prior to the trial. Moses said in his deposition that he witnessed Terry Sanderson behind his mother after hearing her scream. Apple, who did not witness the crash, said her mom looked “shocked” after the collision and exclaimed “this a-hole ran into me” when explaining her frustration.

For example, chalk is made up partly of the microscopic calcium carbonate skeletons of marine plankton, the deposition of which has induced chemical processes to deposit further calcium carbonate. Similarly, the formation of coal begins with deposition of organic material, mainly from plants, in anaerobic conditions.

In this video, we look at the processes that shape the surface of the earth - weathering, erosion, and deposition. We will closely examine physical (mechanical) and chemical weathering, including examples like frost action, abrasion, exfoliation, oxidation, and carbonation.

This short video provides direct instruction over the key vocabulary words weathering, erosion, and deposition. Explanations and examples of each are shown.
Weathering, erosion, and deposition are forces that create landforms on Earth. Weathering causes the sediment, erosion carries the sediment, and deposition drops the sediment..
This video will help with the following standard.
S6E5.e. Develop a model to demonstrate how natural processes (weathering, erosion, and deposition) and human activity change rocks and the surface of the Earth.

Deposition can also refer to the buildup of sediment from organically derived matter or chemical processes.
