The head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee says Al Franken should be seated in the U-S Senate when it convenes Tuesday. New York Senator Charles Schumer says in a statement it's clear Franken has won the election for Minnesota's Senate seat.
After elections officials completed the recount Saturday, Franken had a 225-vote lead over Coleman. The state Canvassing Board will meet Monday and is expected to certify the results.
But Coleman has a court petition pending that seeks to add hundreds more ballots to the recount. And, Coleman hasn't ruled out filing a lawsuit challenging the result.
Coleman's term as senator officially expired Saturday. Senate Republican leaders have said the chamber shouldn't seat Franken until all legal matters are settled, even if that drags on for months.
The Canvassing Board's declaration of the winner of the recount opens a seven-day window for the losing candidate to challenge the result in court. Such a lawsuit could take months to resolve and leave Minnesota with only one senator for the time being.

How many Senate seats can Democrats get in November's election? Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., says the number could be as many as 51.
In an interview with PBS News on Night 1 of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Peters, the chair of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, said he's confident the party will keep a Senate majority, if not expand the map.
He credited enthusiasm around Vice President Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket for helping bring energy to down-ballot races, including competitive Senate seats. He said he thought Democrats could secure wins against Republican incumbents who aren't polling well in Texas and Florida. Peters also said the group has seen record fundraising after Harris joined the race.
