Hobbes vs. Locke vs. Rousseau - Social Contract Theories Compared
Here we look at the Social Contract theories of Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Social Contract theories look at what the relationship between people and their government should be. Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau base this on their views on life in the state of nature. Is it nasty, brutish, and short like Hobbes believed? Or are people born with a Tablua Rasa as envisioned by John Locke and therefore, the social contract should aim to protect people's life, liberty, and property. Rousseau, on the other hand felt that people are born good, but society corrupts - so if you strip away society, people can live collectively in harmony, as envisioned in his social contract theory.

The Malaysian Social Contract Explained
THE MALAYSIAN SOCIAL CONTRACT EXPLAINED
Dr. Mahathir believes that racial-based politics is still relevant and necessary in the country. He wanted the country to achieve development, prosperity and peace by ensuring the poor and underdeveloped Malays be taking care of indefinitely. Their fundamental rights such as the Royal institutions, Islam, language and culture should be protected based on the Social Contract that was agreed upon since pre-independence.
The Social Contract is a treaty agreed upon by the Malays and non-Malays while the country was granting citizenship rights to over a million Chinese and Indian immigrants. From this historical and cultural point of view, the Malays and Bumiputeras should dominate the country's politics and governance. Therefore, according to Dr. Maha...
