Execution by firing squad
Execution by firing squad, sometimes called fusillading (from the French fusil, rifle), is a method of capital punishment, particularly common in the military and in times of war. Execution by shooting is a fairly old practice. Some reasons for its use are that firearms are usually readily available and a gunshot to a vital organ usually kills relatively quickly. Before the introduction of firearms, bows or crossbows were often used — Saint Sebastian is usually depicted as executed by a squad of Roman auxiliary archers in around 288 AD; King Edmund the Martyr of East Anglia, by some accounts, was tied to a tree and executed by Viking archers on 20 November 869 or 870 AD.
A firing squad is normally composed of several military personnel or law enforcement officers. Usually, all members of the group are instructed to fire simultaneously, thus preventing both disruption of the process by a single member and identification of the member who fired the lethal shot. To avoid the disfigurement of multiple shots to the head, the shooters are typically instructed to aim at the heart, sometimes aided by a paper target. The prisoner is typically blindfolded or hooded, as well as restrained, although in some cases prisoners have asked to be allowed to face the firing squad without their eyes covered. Executions can be carried out with the condemned either standing or sitting. There is a tradition in some jurisdictions that such executions are carried out at first light, or at sunrise, which is usually up to half an hour later. This gave rise to the phrase "shot at dawn."

Firing Squad (album)
Firing Squad is hardcore rap group M.O.P.'s second album released on Relativity Records in 1996. It features production by DJ Premier, Big Jaz, Ali Dee, and M.O.P. & Laze E. Laze and guest appearances by Kool G Rap, Teflon, and Battle. The whole album was mixed and overseen by DJ Premier, a tradition that would also carry on over the next two M.O.P. albums. The album is broken down track-by-track by M.O.P. in Brian Coleman's book Check the Technique.

Execution (novel)
Execution is a 1958 war novel by Canadian novelist and Second World War veteran Colin McDougall (1917–1984). Although it won McDougall the 1958 Governor General's Award for English language fiction, it was his only novel, and after publishing it to wide acclaim he retreated into a quiet life as Registrar of McGill University in Montreal. Nevertheless, Execution stands with Timothy Findley's The Wars and Hugh MacLennan's Barometer Rising as one of the most widely read and studied Canadian war novels of the twentieth century.
Plot summary
Based in part on McDougall's experience as an officer with Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, Execution follows the fictional Canadian 2nd Rifles during the Italian campaign of 1943. Led by the flamboyant Brigadier Ian Kildare (a modern miles gloriosus, or braggart soldier), the Canadians land on Sicily where they meet with little resistance from the Italian Army, composed mostly of hapless conscripts who want no part in the war.

The squad commander will then yell, “Do it!” to the executioners standing within a five to 10 metre range. Only three will have live ammunition; the rest will have blanks.If the prisoner is still alive after the three bullets have punctured his chest, the commander will fire a final shot at point blank range, above the inmate’s ear.Australian nationals Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were arrested and convicted in 2005 trying to smuggle 18.5 pounds of heroin from Bali and are scheduled to be executed in the coming days. Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he the Australian public are “revolted” at the prospect of these executions. Brazil and the Netherlands withdrew their ambassadors after the executions in January, and Australia has said it may do the same. France has lodged a diplomatic protest.

Two men were executed in Guatemala on Friday by a firing squad.
The two were sentenced to death for the kidnap, rape and murder of a four-year-old girl three years ago.
The execution was the first to take place in Guatemala in 13 years.
Roberto Giron, 49, and Pedro Castillo Mendoza, 39, were sentenced to death for the murder of a four-year-old girl.
These men kidnapped, raped and then killed Sonia Marisol Alvarez on the 18 April 1993.
Today (Friday) the execution took place at 12.00 G-M-T, in Canada prison, near Escuintla, 50 kms south of Guatemala City, after all appeals failed.
The execution had been suspended twice before, following an appeal by the Inter- American Commission for Human Rights of the Organization of American States (O-A- S).
The appeal was denied by Guatemalan Supreme Court.
Guatemalan President, Alvaro Arzu, prevented another appeal by the American Human Rights Convention.
He also denied a late petition by Pope John Paul II.
The last executions in the country happened in March 1983 during General Jose Efrain Rios Montt's government.

The Flare Gun is an unlockable secondary weapon for the Pyro. It is a single-shot, team-colored flare gun with a flared barrel.
The weapon fires low-damage flare projectiles that travel at approximately 2000 Hammer units per second (roughly 38 m/s). The flares have a shallow trajectory curve that causes them to drop vertical distance drastically at long range. Enemies hit by the flare take minor damage and are set on fire. The damage dealt is not subject to damage falloff or ramp-up from distance. Additionally, flares deliver critical hits on targets who are already on fire. Unlike most other weapons that require reloading, the Flare Gun is reloaded even if the player switches to a different weapon before the reload animation plays.
The flare disintegrates on contact with any surface, or with flares fired by the opposing team, with a hissing noise. While the weapon cannot be fired while the player is underwater, the flare can damage (but not ignite) submerged enemies if fired from land.
Taunting with the Flare Gun equipped results in the Hadouken kill taunt.
The Flare Gun is automatically given to any player who obtains 10 Pyro achievements.

The Flare Gun can cause self-damage to the player if positioned very close to a wall and shot at a specific angle. The small explosion produced can be used to clear small gaps, similar to the Detonator and Scorch Shot.[1]
If the user dies because of this, the Detonator's kill icon is used.
The Festive Flare Gun does not appear when inspecting it from the backpack menu.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA . It is scheduled to take place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018, [2] after the country was
awarded the hosting rights on 2 December 2010.
This will be the first World Cup held in Europe since the 2006 tournament in Germany, and the first ever to be held in Eastern Europe . All of the stadium venues are in European Russia, to keep travel time manageable.
The final tournament will involve 32 national teams, which include 31 teams determined through qualifying competitions and the automatically qualified host team. Of the 32 teams, 20 will be making back-to-back appearances following the last tournament in
2014 , including defending champions Germany , while Iceland and Panama will both be making their first appearances at a FIFA World Cup. A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 venues located in 11 cities. The final will take place on 15 July at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. [3][4]

The bidding procedure to host the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups began in January 2009, and national associations had until 2 February 2009 to register their interest. [6] Initially, nine countries placed bids for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but Mexico later withdrew from proceedings, [7] and Indonesia's bid was rejected by FIFA in February 2010 after the Indonesian government failed to submit a letter to support the bid. [8] During the bidding process, the three remaining non- UEFA nations (Australia, Japan, and the United States) gradually withdrew from the 2018 bids, and the UEFA nations were thus ruled out of the 2022 bid. As such, there were eventually four bids for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, two of which were joint bids: England, Russia, Netherlands/Belgium, and Portugal/Spain.
The twenty-two-member FIFA Executive Committee convened in Zürich on 2 December 2010 to vote to select the hosts of both tournaments. [9] Russia won the right to be the 2018 host in the second round of voting. The Portugal/Spain bid came second, and that from Belgium/Netherlands third. England's bid to host its second tournament fell at the first hurdle. [10]

It was alleged that four members of the executive committee had requested bribes to vote for England, and Sepp Blatter said that it had already been arranged before the vote that Russia would win. [12] Although the 2014 Garcia Report absolved Russia of any blame, the FA refused to accept this, with Greg Dyke calling for a re-examination of the affair and David Bernstein calling for a boycott of the World Cup. The nunchaku (Japanese: ヌンチャク Hepburn: nunchaku?, often "nunchuks",[1] "chainsticks",[2] "chuka sticks"[3] or "karate sticks"[4] in English) is a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks connected at one end by a short chain or rope. Used by Okinawan farmers,[citation needed] it was not a historically popular weapon because it was ineffective against the most widely used weapons of that time, and because few techniques for its use existed. The two sections of the weapon are commonly made out of wood, while the link is a cord or a metal chain. The nunchaku is most widely used in martial arts such as Okinawan kobudō and karate, and is used as a training weapon, since it allows the development of quicker hand movements and improves posture.
In modern times, nunchaku (Tabak-Toyok) were popularized by actor and martial artist Bruce Lee and his student, actor and martial arts instructor Dan Inosanto, in their respective movies. Organizations including the North American Nunchaku Association, World Amateur Nunchaku Organization, Fédération Internationale de Nunchaku de Combat et Artistique, World Nunchaku Association, and International Techdo Nunchaku Association teach the use of nunchaku as a contact sport.
Modern-day nunchaku can be made from metal, wood, plastic or fibreglass. Toy and replica versions made of polystyrene foam or plastic are also available. Possession of this weapon is illegal in some countries, except for use in professional martial art schools.

In modern times, nunchaku (Tabak-Toyok) were popularized by actor and martial artist Bruce Lee and his student, actor and martial arts instructor Dan Inosanto, in their respective movies. Organizations including the North American Nunchaku Association, World Amateur Nunchaku Organization, Fédération Internationale de Nunchaku de Combat et Artistique, World Nunchaku Association, and International Techdo Nunchaku Association teach the use of nunchaku as a contact sport.
Modern-day nunchaku can be made from metal, wood, plastic or fibreglass. Toy and replica versions made of polystyrene foam or plastic are also available. Possession of this weapon is illegal in some countries, except for use in professional martial art schools.

James Connolly (Irish: Séamas Ó Conghaile;[1] 5 June 1868 – 12 May 1916) was an Irish republican, socialist, and trade union leader. Born to Irish parents in the Cowgate area of Edinburgh, Scotland, Connolly left school for working life at the age of ten, and became involved in socialist politics in the 1880s.
Although mainly known for his position in Irish socialist and republican politics, he also took a role in Scottish and American politics. He was a member of the Industrial Workers of the World and founder of the Irish Socialist Republican Party. With James Larkin, he was centrally involved in the Dublin lock-out of 1913, as a result of which the two men formed the Irish Citizen Army (ICA) that year; they also founded the Irish Labour Party along with William O'Brien. Connolly was the long term right-hand man to Larkin in the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (ITGWU) until taking over leadership of both the union and its military wing the ICA upon Larkin's departure for the United States, then leading both until his death.
He opposed British rule in Ireland, and was one of the leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916, commanding the Irish Citizen Army throughout. Following the defeat of the Easter Rising and the arrest of the majority of its leaders, he was taken to Kilmainham Gaol and executed by firing squad for his part in its proceedings

After a series of botched lethal injections, Wyoming and Utah are considering bringing back the firing squad as a form of capital punishment.
During execution by firing squad, the inmate is strapped to a specially designed chair. A patch is put over his heart, and his head is covered with a black hood.
Armed with 0.30-caliber Winchester rifles, five anonymous shooters, most of them law enforcement officers who have volunteered for the role, stand 25 feet away from the inmate. Each executioner fires one shot. One of the guns fires blanks, so the executioners cannot be sure if they killed the inmate.
Execution by firing squad, which has been abolished in most states, was last performed on convicted murderer Ronnie Lee Gardner in Utah three years ago. The practice was abolished by Utah in 2004 but remained an option for Gardner because he was sentenced to death in 1985.

Throughout the centuries and History, there have been many execution methods used. But one of the most common was the firing squad, in which a detachment of soldiers would be used to shoot a victim or a condemned person. Firing squads would be made up of different numbers, and often being shot by a firing squad did go wrong. Officers would have to use a coup de grace to end the suffering, and the executions would usually take place in pits or in firing ranges.
Some victims of the firing squad would be shot in the back and this was considered shameful, but it was an execution method heavily linked to the military and the army. Soldiers who were executed in this way considered being shot by a firing squad as noble and as a much more honourable way to go rather than the gallows.

As states struggle with supplies of drugs used for lethal injections and with the fallout from some recent botched executions, some of the 31 states where the death penalty is legal are looking at firing squads as a backup form of execution.
Ronnie Lee Gardner was the last man killed by firing squad in the United States, in 2010. His brother, Randy Gardner, is now an advocate for ending capital punishment.
VICE News talks to Randy as well as reporter Sheryl Worsley, who witnessed the execution. We also speak with a professor who has studied capital punishment and believes that death by firing squad is actually better than death by lethal injection.

The Indonesian government has announced that 20 executions by firing squads are scheduled for 2015. Six convicts were put to death in January, five of them were foreigners. Two Australians, along with nine other foreign convicts may soon be face the firing squad.Three days before their execution, inmates are be transported to Nusakambangan Island of Java. At midnight, the inmates will be shot dead in separate isolated grassy areas by a squad of 12 executioners.The inmates will wear a white shirt and be led to the execution area by a priest of cleric. They will be given three minutes to calm themselves.The prisoners will be blindfolded and asked if they wish to stand, sit or kneel. Afterward, a doctor will place a mark over their hearts. The squad commander will then yell, “Do it!” to the executioners standing within a five to 10 metre range. Only three will have live ammunition; the rest will have blanks.If the prisoner is still alive after the three bullets have punctured his chest, the commander will fire a final shot at point blank range, above the inmate’s ear.Australian nationals Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran were arrested and convicted in 2005 trying to smuggle 18.5 pounds of heroin from Bali and are scheduled to be executed in the coming days. Prime Minister Tony Abbott said he the Australian public are “revolted” at the prospect of these executions. Brazil and the Netherlands withdrew their ambassadors after the executions in January, and Australia has said it may do the same. France has lodged a diplomatic protest.

Two men were executed in Guatemala on Friday by a firing squad.
The two were sentenced to death for the kidnap, rape and murder of a four-year-old girl three years ago.
The execution was the first to take place in Guatemala in 13 years.
Roberto Giron, 49, and Pedro Castillo Mendoza, 39, were sentenced to death for the murder of a four-year-old girl.
These men kidnapped, raped and then killed Sonia Marisol Alvarez on the 18 April 1993.
Today (Friday) the execution took place at 12.00 G-M-T, in Canada prison, near Escuintla, 50 kms south of Guatemala City, after all appeals failed.
The execution had been suspended twice before, following an appeal by the Inter- American Commission for Human Rights of the Organization of American States (O-A- S).
The appeal was denied by Guatemalan Supreme Court.
Guatemalan President, Alvaro Arzu, prevented another appeal by the American Human Rights Convention.
He also denied a late petition by Pope John Paul II.
The last executions in the country happened in March 1983 during General Jose Efrain Rios Montt's government.

Execution by firing squad, sometimes called fusillading (from the French fusil, rifle), is a method of capital punishment, particularly common in the military and in times of war. Execution by shooting is a fairly old practice. Some reasons for its use are that firearms are usually readily available and a gunshot to a vital organ usually kills relatively quickly. Before the introduction of firearms, bows or crossbows were often used — Saint Sebastian is usually depicted as executed by a squad of Roman auxiliary archers in around 288 AD; King Edmund the Martyr of East Anglia, by some accounts, was tied to a tree and executed by Viking archers on 20 November 869 or 870 AD.
A firing squad is normally composed of several military personnel or law enforcement officers. Usually, all members of the group are instructed to fire simultaneously, thus preventing both disruption of the process by a single member and identification of the member who fired the lethal shot. To avoid the disfigurement of multiple shots to the head, the shooters are typically instructed to aim at the heart, sometimes aided by a paper target. The prisoner is typically blindfolded or hooded, as well as restrained, although in some cases prisoners have asked to be allowed to face the firing squad without their eyes covered. Executions can be carried out with the condemned either standing or sitting. There is a tradition in some jurisdictions that such executions are carried out at first light, or at sunrise, which is usually up to half an hour later. This gave rise to the phrase "shot at dawn."

The Flare Gun is an unlockable secondary weapon for the Pyro. It is a single-shot, team-colored flare gun with a flared barrel.
The weapon fires low-damage flare projectiles that travel at approximately 2000 Hammer units per second (roughly 38 m/s). The flares have a shallow trajectory curve that causes them to drop vertical distance drastically at long range. Enemies hit by the flare take minor damage and are set on fire. The damage dealt is not subject to damage falloff or ramp-up from distance. Additionally, flares deliver critical hits on targets who are already on fire. Unlike most other weapons that require reloading, the Flare Gun is reloaded even if the player switches to a different weapon before the reload animation plays.
The flare disintegrates on contact with any surface, or with flares fired by the opposing team, with a hissing noise. While the weapon cannot be fired while the player is underwater, the flare can damage (but not ignite) submerged enemies if fired from land.
Taunting with the Flare Gun equipped results in the Hadouken kill taunt.
The Flare Gun is automatically given to any player who obtains 10 Pyro achievements.

Per-tick afterburn damage increased to 4, for a total of 8 damage per-second.
Unused content
The Flare Gun has a second reload sound effect in the VPK.
Bugs
The Flare Gun can cause self-damage to the player if positioned very close to a wall and shot at a specific angle. The small explosion produced can be used to clear small gaps, similar to the Detonator and Scorch Shot.[1]
If the user dies because of this, the Detonator's kill icon is used.
The Festive Flare Gun does not appear when inspecting it from the backpack menu.
Trivia
The Flare Gun was first seen in Meet the Sniper, and had not been revealed to the public at the time of the video's release.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA . It is scheduled to take place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018, [2] after the country was
awarded the hosting rights on 2 December 2010.
This will be the first World Cup held in Europe since the 2006 tournament in Germany, and the first ever to be held in Eastern Europe . All of the stadium venues are in European Russia, to keep travel time manageable.
The final tournament will involve 32 national teams, which include 31 teams determined through qualifying competitions and the automatically qualified host team. Of the 32 teams, 20 will be making back-to-back appearances following the last tournament in
2014 , including defending champions Germany , while Iceland and Panama will both be making their first appearances at a FIFA World Cup. A total of 64 matches will be played in 12 venues located in 11 cities. The final will take place on 15 July at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. [3][4]

The bidding procedure to host the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups began in January 2009, and national associations had until 2 February 2009 to register their interest. [6] Initially, nine countries placed bids for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, but Mexico later withdrew from proceedings, [7] and Indonesia's bid was rejected by FIFA in February 2010 after the Indonesian government failed to submit a letter to support the bid. [8] During the bidding process, the three remaining non- UEFA nations (Australia, Japan, and the United States) gradually withdrew from the 2018 bids, and the UEFA nations were thus ruled out of the 2022 bid. As such, there were eventually four bids for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, two of which were joint bids: England, Russia, Netherlands/Belgium, and Portugal/Spain.
The twenty-two-member FIFA Executive Committee convened in Zürich on 2 December 2010 to vote to select the hosts of both tournaments. [9] Russia won the right to be the 2018 host in the second round of voting. The Portugal/Spain bid came second, and that from Belgium/Netherlands third. England's bid to host its second tournament fell at the first hurdle. [10]

The process was not without criticism: allegations of bribery on the part of the Russian team and corruption from FIFA members were made particularly by the English Football Association . It was alleged that four members of the executive committee had requested bribes to vote for England, and Sepp Blatter said that it had already been arranged before the vote that Russia would win. [12] Although the 2014 Garcia Report absolved Russia of any blame, the FA refused to accept this, with Greg Dyke calling for a re-examination of the affair and David Bernstein calling for a boycott of the World Cup. [13][14]

For the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup, all eligible nations – the 209 FIFA member associations minus automatically qualified hosts Russia – entered the qualifying process. [15]
Zimbabwe and Indonesia were later disqualified before playing their first matches, [16][17] while
Gibraltar and Kosovo , who joined FIFA on 13 May 2016 after the qualifying draw but before European qualifying had begun, also entered the competition. [18] Places in the tournament were allocated to continental confederations, with the allocation unchanged from the 2014 World Cup. [19][20] The first qualification game began in Dili , Timor Leste , on 12 March 2015 as part of the AFC's qualification, [21] and the main qualifying draw took place at the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna , Saint Petersburg on 25 July 2015 at 18:00 local time (UTC+3 ).[22][23][24][2]
Of the thirty-two nations qualified to play at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, twenty countries competed at the previous edition of the tournament in 2014 . The nunchaku (Japanese: ヌンチャク Hepburn: nunchaku?, often "nunchuks",[1] "chainsticks",[2] "chuka sticks"[3] or "karate sticks"[4] in English) is a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks connected at one end by a short chain or rope. Used by Okinawan farmers,[citation needed] it was not a historically popular weapon because it was ineffective against the most widely used weapons of that time, and because few techniques for its use existed. The two sections of the weapon are commonly made out of wood, while the link is a cord or a metal chain. The nunchaku is most widely used in martial arts such as Okinawan kobudō and karate, and is used as a training weapon, since it allows the development of quicker hand movements and improves posture.
In modern times, nunchaku (Tabak-Toyok) were popularized by actor and martial artist Bruce Lee and his student, actor and martial arts instructor Dan Inosanto, in their respective movies. Organizations including the North American Nunchaku Association, World Amateur Nunchaku Organization, Fédération Internationale de Nunchaku de Combat et Artistique, World Nunchaku Association, and International Techdo Nunchaku Association teach the use of nunchaku as a contact sport.
Modern-day nunchaku can be made from metal, wood, plastic or fibreglass. Toy and replica versions made of polystyrene foam or plastic are also available. Possession of this weapon is illegal in some countries, except for use in professional martial art schools.

James Connolly (Irish: Séamas Ó Conghaile;[1] 5 June 1868 – 12 May 1916) was an Irish republican, socialist, and trade union leader. Born to Irish parents in the Cowgate area of Edinburgh, Scotland, Connolly left school for working life at the age of ten, and became involved in socialist politics in the 1880s.
Although mainly known for his position in Irish socialist and republican politics, he also took a role in Scottish and American politics. He was a member of the Industrial Workers of the World and founder of the Irish Socialist Republican Party. With James Larkin, he was centrally involved in the Dublin lock-out of 1913, as a result of which the two men formed the Irish Citizen Army (ICA) that year; they also founded the Irish Labour Party along with William O'Brien. Connolly was the long term right-hand man to Larkin in the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (ITGWU) until taking over leadership of both the union and its military wing the ICA upon Larkin's departure for the United States, then leading both until his death.
He opposed British rule in Ireland, and was one of the leaders of the Easter Rising of 1916, commanding the Irish Citizen Army throughout. Following the defeat of the Easter Rising and the arrest of the majority of its leaders, he was taken to Kilmainham Gaol and executed by firing squad for his part in its proceedings
