Okay, don't get excited man, it's 'cause I'm short, I know
Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings
The six o'clock alarm would never ring
But it rings, and I rise
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings
Cheer up, sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean that
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen
You once thought of me
As a white knight on his steed
Now, you know how happy I can be
Whoa, and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend
But how much, baby, do we reall...

Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

Okay, don't get excited man, it's 'cause I'm short, I know
Oh, I could hide 'neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings
The six o'clock alarm would never ring
But it rings, and I rise
Wipe the sleep out of my eyes
My shavin' razor's cold and it stings
Cheer up, sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean that
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen
You once thought of me
As a white knight on his steed
Now, you know how happy I can be
Whoa, and our good times start and end
Without dollar one to spend
But how much, baby, do we really need
Cheer up, sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean that
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen
Cheer up, sleepy Jean
Oh, what can it mean that
To a daydream believer
And a homecoming queen

+ I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone in a cameo appearance with Paul Revere & the Raiders. Before everyone went onstage, Paul asked me to nudge Davy into joining them as both The Monkees and The Raiders have a connection to that song. Davy balked at first but he finally caved in. Elsewhere on this shoot (we were there 2 days) was Roger McGuinn, The Miracles (the classic line-up minus Smokey Robinson), and Gary Lewis & The Playboys w/my friend, drummer Mike Arturi. Also, I was blessed to spend time with Jackie DeShannon (who MC'd) and Chad & Jeremy. The project was produced for PBS by Jim Pierson. PS: I cannot remember the name of the 4-piece vocal group who joined us (great guys). I should also add that Davy bought me the blue tie I wore onstage--he said it "went with my guitar."

A tale of two goodbyes: Nicole Kidman's mother is farewelled in an intimate service at the same church as her father Antony's very public funeral
Nicole Kidman looked sombre as she farewelled her mother Janelle in Sydney on Tuesday at the same church where her father Antony's funeral was held.
The actress, 57, was supported by her husband Keith Urban and their daughters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14, during the emotional service.
Nicole was forced to leave Venice Film Festival last month just hours before her Best Actress win for her role in Babygirl after getting the news of her mother's death at the age of 84.
She said her final goodbye to her mother Janelle during a low-key service held at St Francis Xavier Church in Lavender Bay on Sydney's North Shore.
Her younger sister Antonia, 54, was also in attendance and was supported by her husband Craig Morran during the intimate family service.
Antonia's children Lucia, 26, Hamish, 23, and Sybella, 17 - who she shares with her late husband Angus Hawley - also flocked around to support their mother and their cousins, Nicole's daughters Sunday and Faith.
Antonia also shares another son, James, with Angus - who died in April 2015 from a suspected heart attack - while she went on to welcome two more sons, Nicholas and Alexander, with her second husband Craig.
During one emotional moment ahead of Janelle's service, Sunday was seen wiping tears away from her eyes as she became overwhelmed with emotion.
A few close friends also attended - including Richard Wilkins, Peter Overton and his wife Jessica Rowe - but it was a relatively intimate family service.
It was the same location where the Kidman family farewelled her father Antony back in 2014 in a much more public ceremony which was attended by many high profile guests.
Nicole was left devastated when Antony, a respected psychologist, died of a suspected heart attack in Singapore at the age of 75.
At her father's funeral on September 19, 2014, Nicole paid tribute to Antony in a touching eulogy and sang a song with Keith as she said her final farewell to him.
The service was a larger affair than Janelle's intimate, family funeral as many of the Kidman family's famous friends attended, including Russell Crowe.
At the time, Nicole was seen crying as she held her daughter Sunday, then six, to her chest while pallbearers walked Antony's coffin to the waiting hearse.
After laying the coffin down, Nicole was enveloped in an embrace by Keith, 56, who remained steadfastly by her side.
As churchgoers filtered out of the ceremony, Nicole held her daughters close to her knees and dabbed her eyes with a tissue.
The congregation looked on as the hearse drove away, with several of Antony's grandchildren, incAntony's grief-stricken wife Janelle delivered an emotional and moving speech about her beloved husband, who she called her 'soulmate'.
