In the early days of video games (from the early 1970s to mid-1980s), a game programmer also took on the job of a designer and artist. This was generally because the abilities of early computers were so limited that having specialized personnel for each function was unnecessary. Game concepts were generally light and games were only meant to be played for a few minutes at a time, but more importantly, art content and variations in gameplay were constrained by computers' limited power.
Later, as specialized arcade hardware and home systems became more powerful, game developers could develop deeper storylines and could include such features as high-resolution and full color graphics, physics, advanced artificial intelligence and digital sound. Technology has advanced to such a great degree that contemporary games usually boast 3D graphics and full motion video using assets developed by professional graphic artists. Nowadays, the derogatory term "programmer art" has come to imply the kind of bright colors and blocky design that were typical of early video games.
A programmer, computer programmer, developer, coder, or software engineer is a person who writes computer software. The term computer programmer can refer to a specialist in one area of computer programming or to a generalist who writes code for many kinds of software. One who practices or professes a formal approach to programming may also be known as a programmer analyst. A programmer's primary computer language (Assembly, COBOL, C, C++, C#, Java, Lisp, Python, etc.) is often prefixed to these titles, and those who work in a Web environment often prefix their titles with Web. The term programmer can be used to refer to a software developer, Web developer, mobile applications developer, embedded firmware developer, software engineer, computer scientist, or software analyst. However, members of these professions possess other software engineering skills, beyond programming; for this reason, the term programmer, or code monkey, is sometimes considered an insulting or derogatory oversimplification of these other professions. This has sparked much debate amongst developers, analysts, computer scientists, programmers, and outsiders who continue to be puzzled at the subtle differences in the definitions of these occupations.
For programming a circuit, it is either inserted into a socket (often ZIF) on top of the programmer, or the programmer is directly connected by an adapter to the circuit board (In-System Programming). Afterwards the data is transferred into the circuit by applying signals to the connecting pins. Some circuits have a serial interface for receiving the programming data (JTAG interface). Other circuits require the data on parallel pins, followed by a programming pulse with a higher voltage for programming the data into the circuit.
Usually device programmers are connected to a personal computer through a printer connector, USB port or LAN interface. A software program on the computer then transfers the data to the programmer, selects the circuit and interface type, and starts the programming process.

How Much I Get Paid as a Game Programmer
I've been working professionally as a video game programmer for about a decade now, and think it can be helpful when people are transparent about the money they make. I go into how much money I made at different stages of my career writing code, and how it affected my life, both professionally as a developer, and at home with my quality of life. I've chosen to prioritize satisfaction with my home life and with what I create with my time doing work, and how I went from making part time hourly pay to a full time six figure salary. I think there are misconceptions about the game industry, and there were definitely times where money was tight, but my family and I made it through and are living a very comfortable, privileged life, and I feel highly rewarded by the kind of work I do.

The Harsh Reality Of Being A Game Developer
Lock In 7% With Government Bonds:
https://www.silomarkets.com/logic
For most people, working for a game developer likely sounds pretty cool. You get to bring the games that gave you so much joy to millions of people around the world. But, while the job looks fun from the outside, in reality, being a game developer is actually quite rough. For one, game companies are usually able to get away with paying game developers significantly less than market wages. Similarly, game developers generally end up working quite a bit more than traditional software engineers. This can mostly be explained by the fact that most people who become game developers do it out of passion. So, game companies are able to abuse this passion to milk out the most amount of work. This situation is only made worse by th...

This look inside a Japanese game dev's life is pretty unique and should provide some insight for those people who want to work in Japan as a game developer or game programmer. Also, this day in the life of a Japanese programmer will show you what it takes to be a Japanese programmer. As you would expect, most of the work day is spent programming and coding, but there are other unique aspects of the Japanese programmers life we are able to see in this video.

A Japanese Game Developer working in Tokyo Japan. This is the programmer life in Japan. As a Japanese game programmer you'll see what it is like commuting to work in Tokyo and going to work at one of the largest Video Game Studios in Japan as well as working with other Japanese video game developers, software engineers, video game devs, game designers and even Japanese game directors for a major Japanese Video Game studio. We follow Masa, a 23 year old, Japanese programmer, throughout his workday and witness what he does during his Japanese working hours as a Japanese game programmer at the Bandai Namco Studios office in Tokyo. We'll even interact with directors from popular Japanese video game titles such as Tekken and CodeVein. Plus we'll get to see what a Japanese programmer from one of the large Video Game companies in Japan does after work with friends.

This situation is only made worse by the fact that game development skills aren’t easily transferable to traditional tech companies. So, many developers often end up getting trapped within the gaming industry. This video explains the pros and cons of being a game developer and how game developers end up getting ripped off by game companies.
