David Rankin is a New York-based Australian artist. He works predominantly in oil and acrylic on canvas, but also works with paper, prints, sculptures and ceramics. Rankin has held over 100 one-person exhibitions in cities across the world and his work forms part of many of the world's leading collections and museums.
Rankin is self-taught, developing his techniques and ideas in the outback towns of his youth. He was inspired by the greats from Leonardo da Vinci to Paul Klee as well as being influenced by the history of Buddhism and Asian art.
In his travels before he arrived in Sydney in 1967 he developed a concept of what he wanted to achieve as an Australian artist. His dream was to express the anima, the life spirit or the essence of God in all nature. As an Australian artist he believed could bring the elements of Western Art together with an understanding and love for the cultures of Asia and the Australian Aborigine. He also felt that as Australia was closer to Asia than Europe it made sense to think about the art of Indian, Chinese and Japanese artists, and that one could not be an authentic articulate Australian artist without a love and respect for the artistic and spiritual expressions of the various Aboriginal peoples and cultures.
David William Rankin (February 2, 1919 – December 8, 2006) was an American football player and track athlete and coach. He was a consensus first-team All-American at the end position at Purdue University in 1940. He also set a U.S. indoor record in the 60-yard low hurdles in 1940. During World War II, he served as a fighter pilot in the United States Marine Corps. He later worked as the head coach of the Purdue track team from 1946 to 1981. He was also an assistant football coach at Purdue in 1947 and 1948. He was also the U.S. track team coach at the 1975 World University Games. He has been inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame (1998), the Indiana Football Hall of Fame (1977) and the Drake Relays Coaches Hall of Fame (1995). Rankin died in 2006 at the age of 87.
Rankin came to Fitzroy from Colac and made six appearances for Fitzroy in the 1980 VFL season. One of his most productive games came against South Melbourne when he had 20 disposals and kicked a goal. He didn't participate in a single win that year but Fitzroy won all three games that he played in 1981, his final season.
For the rest of the 1980s, Rankin played at East Fremantle, mostly in defense or on the wing. He was a member of East Fremantle's 1985 premiership team, playing as a wingmman in their five-point grand final win over Subiaco.
David (Bulgarian:Давид) (died 976) was a Bulgarian noble, brother of Emperor Samuel and eldest son of komes Nicholas. After the disastrous invasion of Rus' armies and the fall of North-eastern Bulgaria under Byzantine occupation in 971, he and his three younger brothers took the lead of the defence of the country. They executed their power together and each of them governed and defended a separate region. He ruled the southern-most parts of the realm from Prespa and Kastoria and was responsible for the defence the dangerous borders with Thessalonica and Thessaly. In 976 he participated in the major assault against the Byzantine Empire but was killed by vagrant Vlachs between Prespa and Kostur.

Another theory
However, there's also another version about David’s origin. David gains the title "comes" during his service in the Byzantine army which recruited many Armenians from the Eastern region of the empire. The 11th-century historian Stepanos Asoghik wrote that Samuel had one brother, and they were Armenians from the district Derjan. This version is supported by the historians Nicholas Adontz, Jordan Ivanov, and Samuil's Inscription where it’s said that Samuel’s brother is David. Also, the historians Yahya and Al Makin clearly distinguish the race of Samuel and David (the Comitopouli) from the one of Moses and Aaron (the royal race):
David (Spanish pronunciation:[daˈβið]) officially San José de David is a city and corregimiento located in the west of Panama. It is the capital of the province of Chiriquí and has an estimated population of 144,858 inhabitants as confirmed in 2013. It is a relatively affluent city with a firmly established, dominant middle class and a very low unemployment and poverty index. The Pan-American Highway is a popular route to David.
The development of the banking sector, public construction works such as the expansion of the airport and the David-Boquete highway alongside the growth of commercial activity in the city have increased its prominence as one of the fastest growing regions in the country. The city is currently the economic center of the Chiriqui province and produces more than half the gross domestic product of the province, which totals 2.1 billion. It is known for being the third-largest city in the country both in population and by GDP and for being the largest city in Western Panama.

Paint the Beach with David Rankin - Workshop in Bluffton SC
Don’t just Walk the Beach… Paint it… with David Rankin
In artistic terms, the beach represents an amazing variety of wonderful feelings for artists to capture in their paintings. As a potential subject for an artist to paint, few possess more variety and uplifting emotion than the beach. The dramatic sky, the surf, the birds, the people, the open spaces, reflective sand, the color palette, and moods of light offer the artist an amazing range of features, all of which beg to be painted. This is truly a “Feel Good” subject for painters that provides the discerning eyes of the artist subjects that help us create very memorable watercolors. So don’t just walk the beach… come and paint it… with David Rankin at the Society of Bluffton Artists, February 14, 15, & 16… Bluffton, South Carolina.
