Vancouver – a city regularly voted “the World’s most livable”. With breezes that carry the scents of nature and aromas of all the urban delights you’d expect from a city, it’s easy to understand why visitors flock to this Canadian city.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Vancouver: https://www.expedia.com/Vancouver.d178315.Destination-Travel-Guides
#Explore the early history of #Vancouver at Waterfront Station, the western terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway. On your #vacation, experience the interweaving of cultures in Chinatown, where the fusing of Oriental flavors with local seafood has helped earn the city the title, “the Culinary Capital of Canada.”
After visiting Vancouver’s central highlights, ride the ferry to Granville Island. From Granville Island, head to Queen Elizabeth Park on Little Mountain, a peaceful oasis high above the city.
When it’s time to answer the call of the wild, cross the Lions Gate Bridge to The North Shore, a wilderness where bears roam and salmon-filled rivers flow through old-growth forests.
Less than a two-hour drive from the city is Whistler Blackcomb Resort, the largest ski resort in North America. The beautifully connected runs here cater to all skill levels and attract elite skiers and beginners from all over the globe.

Twists, turns and lots of air was the name of the game at Steamboat when snowboarders and skiers tackled the Cross Course in Bashor. The competition course built by Nick Roma-Steamboat's Terrain Park manager and the only American on the 2010 Olympic course design team, winds through the Mavericks Terrain Park, banking around Bashor chairlift and ending on Giggle Gulch. The course is expected to be 7/10th of a mile with 150 meters of vertical drop, a little longer than a regulation 100 meter course. Racers in Boarder/Skier Cross competitions can hit speeds of up to 35 mph, resulting in approximately 1 minute of competition time.

This fall, British Columbians will vote by mail to decide which voting system should be used for provincial elections: keep our current first-past-the-post system, or change to one of three options for proportional representation.
Lost in the jargon? Join us October 30th in downtown Vancouver for a crash course on the issues and options. Four UBC political scientists will demystify the ballot choices and spell out the evidence for and against electoral reform in B.C. In a conversation facilitated by CBC journalist Michelle Eliot, learn how the referendum results might impact rural communities, political parties, women, and Indigenous peoples in B.C.; how proportional representation works (or doesn’t) in places around the world; and takeaway lessons to inform your vote this fall.
The forum will include four short, engaging lectures followed by audience Q&A with the panelists.
The Panelists
Max Cameron, Professor, UBC Department of Political Science; Director, Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions
Richard Johnston, Professor, UBC Department of Political Science; Canada Research Chair in Public Opinions, Elections, and Representation
Sheryl Lightfoot, Associate Professor, UBC First Nations and Indigenous Studies and Department of Political Science; Canada Research Chair in Global Indigenous Rights and Politics; Senior Advisor to the President on Indigenous Affairs, UBC
Grace Lore, Adjunct Professor, University of Victoria Department of Political Science; Senior Researcher, Equal Voice; PhD graduate, UBC Political Science
The conversation will be facilitated by Michelle Eliot, award-winning journalist and host of CBC Radio’s midday call-in show, BC Today.
Andrew Szeri, UBC Provost and Vice-President Academic, will provide opening remarks.
