A 2012 article in Vanguard News noted the death of Alhaji Lawan Kabu, former Chairman Damboa Local Government Area. It suggested that some of the perpetrators of violence in Borno State were using Boko Haram as an excuse for political violence.
A 28 May 2014 report in the Premium Times quoted "a spokesperson of the local vigilante" as saying:
“Places like Talasla, Ajigin, Mangozam, Abima, Abulam, Keloruwa; all within Damboa Local Government Area have now been taken over by the Boko Haram gunmen”.
A 25 June 2014 report of an attack on a military post at Bulabulin Ngaura was not confirmed by military sources.

The ‘Bring Back Our Girls’ campaign group in Abuja has expressed concern over the security situation in Dambua where residents have fled the community to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State and Gombe State after an attack by the Boko Haram sect two weeks ago.
According to some members of the group, over 5,000 Dambua residents are currently seeking refuge in Maiduguri and neighbouring towns, as terrorist continue to unleash attacks on them.
The Bring Back Our Girls campaign group have consistently demanded for the release of the Chibok girls in April abducted by members of the Boko Haram terrorist group.
Three months on, members say there is no going back until the girls are rescued.

Mercy Corps through funding from the United States Agency for International Development Office for Food for Peace (USAID FFP) implemented the Responsive Economic Assistance to Conflict-Affected Households (REACH-4) program, to support the most vulnerable households in Damboa, Borno state.
