Dalziel and Pascoe is a popular British television crime drama based on the novels of the same name, written by Reginald Hill. The series was first broadcast on 18 March 1996, with Warren Clarke being cast as Dalziel and Colin Buchanan being cast as Pascoe. The series is primarily set in Yorkshire, and "follows the work of two detectives that are thrown together as partners. Complete opposites. Different backgrounds, different beliefs, different styles. They get on each other's nerves. They are continually embarrassed by each other. But their differences make them a stunningly brilliant crime-solving team." The first three series were entirely based on Hill's novels, as were the first two episodes of series four. However, all subsequent stories, with the exception of "Dialogues of the Dead", are stories written exclusively for television, and have not appeared as subsequent novels. The series was produced by BBC Birmingham, and broadcast on BBC One until 22 June 2007, running for a total of eleven series.
Dalziel and Pascoe (pronunciation) consist of Detective Superintendent Andrew Dalziel, usually known as Andy, and Detective Sergeant, later Detective Inspector, Peter Pascoe. They are two fictional Yorkshiredetectives featuring in a series of novels by Reginald Hill. Hill's mysteries often break with storytelling tradition. The novels employ various structural tricks, such as presenting parts of the story in non-chronological order, or alternating with sections from a novel supposedly written by Peter's wife, Ellie Pascoe (née Soper). The novella One Small Step is even set in the future, and deals with the detectives investigating a murder on the moon. In another departure from the norm, the duo do not always "get their man", with at least one novel ending with the villain getting away and another strongly implying that what Dalziel and Pascoe dismiss as a series of unrelated accidents actually included at least one undetected instance of murder.
Dinosaur Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel and his cultured sidekick, DI Pascoe return to tackle four intriguing new murder mysteries set in the beautiful countryside and towns of Yorkshire. Cases include a complex investigation involving an escaped wife-murderer, secret affairs, hidden bodies and illegitimate children; and the death of a wealthy factory owner, blamed by his family on his Russian fiance. They may be total opposites, but their different skills complement one another, making them a crime-busting detective team second to none.
