The D-Generation was a popular and influential Australian TV sketch comedy show, produced and broadcast by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) for two series, between 1986 and 1987. A further four specials were broadcast on the Seven Network between 1988 and 1989.
Synopsis
The series was produced and directed by Kris Noble and was created and written by a group of Melbourne University students who had gained local notoriety for their stage work: Rob Sitch, Santo Cilauro, Marg Downey, Michael Veitch, Magda Szubanski, John Harrison, and Tom Gleisner. Also part of the original team was Nick Bufalo, who appeared in the unscreened one-hour D-Generation pilot (1985), before accepting a long-running role on TV soap A Country Practice. Several of Bufalo's sketches from the pilot (including the famous Thunderbirds parody) were incorporated into series one, and Bufalo himself returned for the specials. Actress/comedian Jane Turner and New Zealander Tony Martin joined from series two, and Melbourne Uni Revue stars Mick Molloy and Jason Stephens were added for the specials.
D Generation (also known as DGen) are an Americanglam punk band formed in 1991 in New York City. The band broke up in 1999, but reunited in 2011 for shows. During its history the band released three albums, to much critical acclaim. The group's sound blurred the lines between punk rock, glam rock and garage rock.
History
The original line-up for D Generation consisted of vocalist Jesse Malin (who had previously played with New York band Heart Attack during the late 1980s), guitarists Danny Sage (also an ex-Heart Attack member), John Carco on bass, Howie Pyro on guitar, and drummer Michael Wildwood (Danny Sage's brother). The band had not yet been named, although much of the material would later be performed and recorded by D Generation. The line up did not last. After bassist John Carco quit (later to join forces with Dee Dee Ramone), Malin and Pyro (who had switched to bass) continued to play, naming the band and adding Richard Bacchus on guitar, and Sage and Wildwood left briefly to finish up their previous projects and were replaced for a brief time by Georgie Seville and Belvy K respectively. Sage and Wildwood soon returned, and this is the line-up D Generation is best known for.
D Generation is the self-titled debut album, released by New York Cityglam punk band D Generation. The track "No Way Out" was released from the record as a single. Tracks 1,3, 5 and 7 are re-recorded versions of songs that had previously been released as 7-inch singles in 1993 ("No Way Out" b/w "Guitar Mafia" and "Wasted Years" b/w "Waiting For The Next Big Parade").
Track listing
"No Way Out" (Richard Bacchus, Jesse Malin, Howie Pyro) - 4:23
"Sins of America" (Malin, Pyro, Danny Sage) - 3:39
"Guitar Mafia" (Malin, Sage) - 4:16
"Feel Like Suicide" (Malin, Sage) - 2:20
"Waiting for the Next Big Parade" (Bacchus, Malin, Pyro) - 4:28
After its original run with members Shawn Michaels, Hunter Hearst Hemsley (later known simply as Triple H), Chyna and Rick Rude, the group expanded to become a mainstay of the Attitude Era with new additions like X-Pac, The New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg and Billy Gunn) and Tori until it disbanded in August 2000. After a teased reunion in 2002, DX reformed in June 2006 as the duo of Triple H and Shawn Michaels for the remainder of the year and again in August 2009 until March 2010, shortly before Michaels' retirement. This incarnation was voted the greatest WWE Tag Team Champions of all time in a 2013 WWE viewer poll.
Concept
The group's gimmick was best known as a gang of rebels who broke the rules, acted and spoke as they pleased, and wrestled whoever they wanted no matter how provocative and insulting. Noted for their crude, profane humor and sophomoric pranks, the stable has been dubbed multiple times as the "most controversial group in WWF/E history". Michaels' autobiography suggests that it was WWF head writer Vince Russo who first conceived the moniker for the faction, while Hart claims it originated from New York Post columnist Phil Mushnick, a frequent critic of the WWF.
Entrance music (also known as an Entry theme or Walk-on music) is a musical piece or song that is played for sports persons or celebrities when they enter the ring or the playing field.
