The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club, founded in 1902, is the youngest of the Victorian-based teams in the AFL and has won thirteen VFL/AFL premierships; renowned as the only club having won premierships in each decade of the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. The team play in brown and gold vertically striped guernseys. The club's Latin motto is spectemur agendo, the English translation being "By our deeds we shall be known".
The Hawks' origins are in the inner-eastern Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn and also at Glenferrie Oval, the club's former administrative and training base and social club. Matches, however, have not been played there since 1973. In 2006, Hawthorn's training and administration facilities were relocated to Waverley Park in the middle of the club's major supporter base in Melbourne's outer-eastern region. Since 2007 Hawthorn have played four games a year at their second ground of York Park in Launceston, Tasmania, with the remaining games played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the club's current playing home ground. Hawthorn's current Victorian Football League (VFL) affiliate team is the Box Hill Hawks Football Club.
Crataegus (/krəˈtiːɡəs/), (from the Greek kratos strength and akis sharp, referring to the thorns of some species) commonly called hawthorn, thornapple,May-tree,whitethorn, or hawberry, is a large genus of shrubs and trees in the familyRosaceae, native to temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere in Europe, Asia and North America. The name "hawthorn" was originally applied to the species native to northern Europe, especially the common hawthornC.monogyna, and the unmodified name is often so used in Britain and Ireland. The name is now also applied to the entire genus and to the related Asian genus Rhaphiolepis. The name haw, originally an Old English term for hedge, applies to the fruit.
Description
Crataegus species are shrubs or small trees, mostly growing to 5–15 metres (16–49ft) tall, with small pomefruit and (usually) thorny branches. The most common type of bark is smooth grey in young individuals, developing shallow longitudinal fissures with narrow ridges in older trees. The thorns are small sharp-tipped branches that arise either from other branches or from the trunk, and are typically 1–3cm long (recorded as up to 11.5 centimetres (4.5in) in one case). The leaves grow spirally arranged on long shoots, and in clusters on spur shoots on the branches or twigs. The leaves of most species have lobed or serrate margins and are somewhat variable in shape. The fruit, sometimes known as a "haw", is berry-like but structurally a pome containing from 1 to 5 pyrenes that resemble the "stones" of plums, peaches, etc., which are drupaceous fruit in the same subfamily.
Hawthorn (Welsh:Y Ddraenen Wen) is a village within the community of the town of Pontypridd in the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf and is located 10 miles north west of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales. Historically this fell within the parish of Eglwysilan within Mid Glamorgan. The electoral ward of Hawthorn comprises the settlements of Lower Rhydyfelin and Upper Boat.
Song's main focus was on leisure traffic between the northeastern United States and Florida, a market where it competed with JetBlue Airways. It also operated flights between Florida and the West Coast, and from the Northeast to the west coast.
Song's aircraft were fitted with leather seats and free personal entertainment systems at every seat, with audio MP3 programmable selections, trivia games that could be played against other passengers, a flight tracker, and satellite television (provided by the DISH Network). Song offered free beverages, but charged for meals and liquor. Both brand-name snack boxes and healthy organic meals were offered. The flight safety instructions were sung or otherwise artistically interpreted, depending on the cabin crew. In addition to crew uniforms designed by Kate Spade, customized cocktails created by nightlife impresario Rande Gerber and an in-flight exercise program designed by New York City fitness guru David Barton, the airline created its own distinct mark in the industry. The Song brand was placed on more than 200 flights a day which carried over ten million passengers.
Wolf Parade (6 Song EP) is the second EP by Canadianindie rock band Wolf Parade. The EP is a collaborative effort by the band members. Song writing and vocals are split between members Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug.
All songs but "The National People's Scare" and "Killing Armies" would later be re-recorded for the band's debut LP Apologies to the Queen Mary. The recording of Killing Armies from this EP appears as an iTunes bonus track for the LP.
The EP is packaged in a clear plastic sleeve, with the CD itself wrapped in a tri-fold piece of paper with the album artwork and track listing on it. The artwork was made by Tracy Maurice.

Woodturning - Hawthorn Root Lamp
This weeks project is something I have been working on for a while, the wood has taken longer than expected to dry out allowing the resin pour. The root was saved last year following the removal of a hedge.
The amount of resin used in the project was approximately 4kg. Although not shown in the video, the root was rough turned then placed in an over for several hours to speed up the drying, even then it still took a further 4 weeks to dry out and reach a state of equilibrium.
The initial rough turn was a little more shaky on the lathe than I would have liked and not something I would recommend doing for any extended period, however it was only a few minutes before it was balanced up enough to turn the speed up a little. Unfortunately the minimum speed on the lathe is only 500rpm, which ...

The leaves on them which can be between 3 to 8 centimetres or 3 – 12 centimetres. The leaves can be, are usually on little reddish-brown stems The leaves themselves are doubly serrated. That means they are quite deeply doubly serrated.
Generally, they have white blossoms in Spring, though in some areas you can even find a slightly pink blossom.
The bark is full of character. It's a flaky bark. It tends to be between gray, gray and brown and gives the age, it gives the tree, the bonsai, quite a bit of age.
The best place to grow a Hawthorn is in full Sun outdoors. It needs a lot of light, it needs a lot of water. It’s from the Rosaceae family.
Feed regularly during the growing season. The growing season generally starts from March up to about August, July, August.
You repot the tree, Springtime is about the best of March to April or end of April is a good time to do it.
Prune in May, June and then again in July, August, September, Autumn when the leaves start falling off. Structural pruning is generally kept towards when the trunk of the tree is dormant.
Cuttings take quite easily with this species. If you're going to try and grow them from seed, you generally have to, they have to have a two-year chilling.
Even in the wild, they take two years before they start propagating.
Seeds are generally not so easy to propagate from unless you have professional help. Having said that, they're easy to collect from the wild and you’ll find lots of self seeded trees all around.

Go Hawks!
