Gravity Currents - Home Fluid Dynamics Experiment
Gravity currents are flows that occur whenever there are horizontal density differences in fluids (such as the ocean and atmosphere).
We demonstrate such flows in a simple experiment that can be performed at home.

Eddy (fluid dynamics)
In fluid dynamics, an eddy is the swirling of a fluid and the reverse current created when the fluid flows past an obstacle. The moving fluid creates a space devoid of downstream-flowing fluid on the downstream side of the object. Fluid behind the obstacle flows into the void creating a swirl of fluid on each edge of the obstacle, followed by a short reverse flow of fluid behind the obstacle flowing upstream, toward the back of the obstacle. This phenomenon is most visible behind large emergent rocks in swift-flowing rivers.
Another possible type of turbulence is the vortex. This notion is now applied to gases, which have the same properties as liquids. Here, no void is created, but only an area of lower pressure, but again, a backflow causes the gas to rotate.

VIV (vortex-induced vibrations) of a flexible riser cable in 3D under strong stepped current. Unsteady deformation of the riser, computed with K-FSI.
This problem is solved by K-FSI, a strongly-coupled fluid solver (ISIS-CFD of FINE™/Marine) and structural solver (ARA) developed by K-Epsilon.

This physics video tutorial explains the concept of basic electricity and electric current. It explains how DC circuits work and how to calculate voltage, current, and electrical resistance using Ohm's law. In addition, it shows you how to calculate the electric charge and the number of electrons flowing through a wire at any given point. In addition, it has a few examples and practice problems on electric power, cost of electricity in Kwh and other stuff as well. It provides visual drawings, equations, and formulas as well as the units of common variables that you'll encounter when dealing with electricity. It discusses the difference between conventional current and electron flow. The unit of electric current is the ampere or amps for short. The unit for resistance is ohms and for voltage is volts. 1A is 1C/s or 1 coulomb per second. Electric current is the rate of electric charge flow. Charge represents the quantity of electrons in the case of metal conductors. The unit of power is the watt which is 1 Joule per second. Power is the rate at which energy is transferred. Equations used include V=IR, P=VI, and Q=It.

Charge represents the quantity of electrons in the case of metal conductors. The unit of power is the watt which is 1 Joule per second. Power is the rate at which energy is transferred.
