Cricklade is twinned with Sucé-sur-Erdre in France. Cricklade's Latinmotto is In Loco Delicioso, which means "in a pleasant place".
On 25 September 2011 Cricklade was awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's 'Champion of Champions' award in the Britain in Bloom competition. The small town has many sporting events and hosts the annual Cricklade Show. Cricklade has a large Jubilee clock, erected in 1898 in honour of Queen Victoria'sDiamond Jubilee the preceding year. The clock stands outside the Vale Hotel in High Street, where the Town Cross once stood; there are two versions of the cross in Cricklade, one in the churchyard of St Sampson's, the other at St Mary's, and there is local rivalry as to which one is believed to be the older.
Initially this consisted of only the town of Cricklade, but from 1782 the vote was extended to the surrounding countryside as a punishment for the borough's corruption. The extended area came to include the village of Swindon, which later grew into a large town with the coming of the railways in the 19th century.
Cricklade is a small historic 9th century Saxon town, lying just outside the Cotswolds 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. It is the First Town on the River Thames and the Southern Gateway to the Cotswolds. It is Situated in north Wiltshire, England, midway between Swindon and Cirencester.
Enjoy the walking tour on a chilly February afternoon.

The Cotswolds England - Cricklade
We went for a day out in the Cotswold town of Cricklade. We had a walk around the beautiful town and then a drink in the Cotswold B&B The Red Lion, which was voted Wiltshire dining pub of the year by the Good Pub Guide 2012. Enjoy!

Whats The Thames Path Like ?- From The Source To Cricklade
Part 1 of our adventures on the Thames Path saw us walk from Thames Head to Cricklade on what was the hottest day of the year. Walking with our good Friends the Dales however made this a memorable adventure with good banter, plenty of wildlife to spot and some great pub stops too. This section of the path allows you to see the River Thames grow from a small trickle and puddle to a beautiful winding river full of wildlife. And it passes through some chocolate box Cotswolds villages before we finished in the pretty town of Cricklade for an excellent overnight stop in the Vale Hotel.

Swindon's Lost Locks | North Wilts Canal | Wilts and Berks
A look at the Moredon and Mouldon Locks on the old North Wilts canal which became part of the Wilts and Berks canal. The North Wilts ran from the junction in the centre of Swindon to Lawton Basin at Cricklade on the Cotswold Canals.
Walking from Mouldon hill country park we first visit the Moredon aqueduct before walking south towards the town of Swindon and onto Mouldon Lock, Moredon Bridge and then the two locks at Moredon. How did the power station and the Midland and South Western Junction Railway affect the canal? Now the Swindon and Cricklade railway it runs through a similar course and is both a heritage railway and a cycle path in the town.
