Crested serpent eagle and a bronze back tree snake fighting
The crested serpent eagle was trying to hunt this what I believe is a bronze back tree snake.
Although in the end the snake lost, but it didn't go without a fight.
The snake got multiple shots at the face of the snake.
What we have to keep in mind is that the bronze back tree snake is not venomous, so it can't cause major damage to the serpent eagle.

Typically avoids dense forest interior; prefers secondary or partly open forest, clearings, gaps and forest edge. They roost in the interiors of trees with dense foliage
The bird is large, heavily built brownish eagle with a dark, white-tipped small bushy crest that gives it a distinctive large-headed look. When raised in alarm, the crest frames the whole face, highlighting the bare yellow lores and eyes, making the head look larger and fiercer. The bare facial skin is yellow. The shoulders and undersides, especially belly, thighs and undertail-coverts are variously marked with white spots or barring. Prominent pale band on tail and along trailing edge of underwing. Juvenile predominantly white with dark streaks below.
Commonly seen perched upright in well-wooded areas, with wingtips nearly covering the broad white sub-terminal band on the tail.
Females average 4–6% larger than males. Juvenile paler with black face patches and two pale tailbands and a lot of white on the head.
The bird feeds mainly on reptiles, especially snakes and lizards; less commonly on mammals, crabs, eels, frogs and birds. Hunts almost exclusively from exposed perch near open glade or along stream or forest edge; when foraging remains still for long periods while scanning for suitable prey items. Prey taken on ground or from trees, after short stoop, and consumed on ground or on elevated perch. They sometimes follow snakes on the ground, hunts snakes of more than 1.5 m long and first kill the snake by tearing away its head by the beak and the then swallow the snake entirely.
The bird is fairly noisy, especially during aerial displays in breeding season; also vocalizes while perched. Most common call is a loud, shrill pi –pi- wheeeah-wheeeah.
Breeding period is December to –March in Kerala. The nest is a large platform built high on a tree, usually along riverine trees. . Nests are 55–105 cm across, 10–30 cm deep; lined with grass and green leaves; built by pair 6–25 m above ground in large tree. Both birds in a pair build the nest but the female alone incubates. The male guards when the female forages. Clutch one egg; incubation period is 40 days by female only; nestling period ca. 65 days. Hatchling has white down; both adults feed chick.
Twenty-one subspecies are currently recognized. Spilornis cheela melanotis occurs in Kerala.
In IUCN Global Red List, bird is included under” Least concern”.

The crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela) is a medium-sized bird of prey that is found in forested habitats across tropical Asia. They fly over the forest canopy on broad wings and tail have wide white and black bars. They call often with a loud, piercing and familiar three or two-note call. They often feed on snakes. It is found mainly over areas with thick vegetation both on the low hills and the plains. This species is a resident species, but in some parts of their range they are found only in summer.
The call of raptors are often high pitched and Crested serpent eagle is no exception. They can be found calling , perched in a high perch with a overlook during morning hours.
