The Coweta County School System (CCSS) is the primary education system in Coweta County, Georgia, USA. Its headquarters are an antebellum building on Jackson Street (US 29) at Sprayberry Road in Newnan, Georgia. Coweta County is the 9th fastest-growing county in Georgia and the 26th fastest-growing in the country. The CCSS has grown from 9,210 students in 1984 to over 22,000 students in 2007.
Overview
The CCSS operates eighteen elementary schools, six middle schools and three high schools, serving an area of 431 square miles (1,120km2) with approximately 22,000 students and 1,200 teachers.
State schools (also known as public schools, though not in England and Wales) generally refer to primary or secondary schools mandated for or offered to all children without charge, funded in whole or in part by taxation. The term may also refer to public institutions of post-secondary education.
General characteristics
State education includes basic education, kindergarten to twelfth grade, also referred to as primary and secondary education, as well as post-secondary educational institutions such as universities, colleges, and technical schools funded and overseen by government rather than private entities.
State education is inclusive, both in its treatment of students and in that enfranchisement for the government of public education is as broad as for government generally. It is often organized and operated to be a deliberate model of the civil community in which it functions. Although typically provided to groups of students in classrooms in a central school, it may be provided in-home, employing visiting teachers,and/or supervising teachers. It can also be provided in non-school, non-home settings, such as shopping mall space.
The land for Lee, Muscogee, Troup, Coweta and Carroll counties was ceded by the Creek people in the 1825 Treaty of Indian Springs. The counties' boundaries were created by the Georgia General Assembly on June 9, 1826, but they were not named until December 14, 1826. Coweta County was named for the Koweta Indians (a sub-group of the Creek people), who had several towns in and around the present-day county.
Government and politics
The legislative body of is the Coweta County Commission, which consists of five members elected from numbered districts. The chairmanship rotates among the members. Coweta County is the only in Georgia that operates with a rotating chairmanship.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 446 square miles (1,160km2), of which 441 square miles (1,140km2) is land and 4.9 square miles (13km2) (1.1%) is water.

In a unique experiment, a private head, his state school counterpart and six of their pupils spend a week in each other's worlds.
