From 1948, the Principal of Coventry Teacher Training College (later called Coventry College of Education) was Joan Dillon Browne (1912–2009), who was made an honorary professor on her retirement in 1975. Under her leadership, the college roll grew to some 1,500 students, among them – in the mid-1970s – Estelle Morris, future Secretary of Education, who remembered "JD" as "a pioneer in showing what women could achieve, long before it was fashionable to do so". On Joan Dillon's retirement, vice-principal Gordon Lawrence (1923–2011) became principal. When the college merged with the University of Warwick in 1978, he was appointed as the first Director of the Institute of Education, remaining in post until his retirement in 1984.
King Saud University (KSU, Arabic:جامعة الملك سعود) is a public university in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, founded in 1957 by King Saud bin Abdulaziz as Riyadh University, as the first university in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The university was created to meet the shortage of skilled workers in Saudi Arabia. It was renamed King Saud University in 1982.
The student body of KSU today consists of about 65,000 students of both sexes. The female students have their own disciplinary panel, and there is a center supervising the progress of female students, either personally by female faculty members or by male faculty members via a closed television network. The university offers courses in the natural sciences, the humanities, and professional studies, for which it charges no tuition. The medium of instruction in undergraduate programs is English and Arabic depending on the chosen major. Among Arab universities, its medical programs are highly regarded.
History
Establishing Saudi Arabia’s first university was a response to the educational and professional needs of a young nation. King Abdulaziz became king in 1932, and began laying the foundations for modernizing his country and establishing an educational system. In 1953 King Saud, the eldest son of Abdulaziz, acceded to the throne upon his father's death, and instituted the Council of Ministers and the Ministry Education.
In the United States and Canada, a school of education (or college of education; ed school) is a division within a university that is devoted to scholarship in the field of education, which is an interdisciplinary branch of the social sciences encompassing sociology, psychology, linguistics, economics, political science, public policy, history, and others, all applied to the topic of elementary, secondary, and post-secondary education. The U.S. has 1,206 schools, colleges
and departments of education and they exist in 78% of all universities and colleges. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, 176,572 individuals were conferred masters' degrees in education by degree-granting institutions in the United States in 2006–2007. The number of master’s degrees conferred has grown immensely since the 1990s and accounts for one of the discipline areas that awards the highest number of master’s degrees in the United States.
The National Kaohsiung Normal University (NKNU; Chinese:國立高雄師範大學), founded in 1967, is a public university located in Lingya District, Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The university has two campuses — Ho-Ping and Yen-Chao. The University currently has five colleges: College of Education, College of Humanities, College of Science, College of Technology, and College of Arts.
History
National Kaohsiung Normal University (NKNU), formerly known as Taiwan Provincial Kaohsiung Teachers’ College, was founded in August 1967 by Taiwan Provincial Government. The University’s founding mission was to train secondary-school teachers for the implementation of the nine-year compulsory education. On July 1, 1980, the Institution was renamed National Kaohsiung Teachers’ College. On August 1, 1989 it was re-designated as National Kaohsiung Normal University. In 1989, the University initiated the plan to build the second campus in Yen-Chao district and inaugurated the campus in 1999.
Coventry (i/ˈkɒvəntri/) is a city and metropolitan borough in the centre of England. It was the capital of England more than once in the 15thcentury when the seat of Government was held in Coventry. Coventry's heritage includes the Roman Fort at Baginton, Lady Godiva, St Mary's Guildhall (where kings and queens were entertained) and three cathedrals.
Coventry is located in the county of West Midlands but is historically part of Warwickshire. Coventry is the 10th largest city in England and the 13th largest UK city overall. It is also the second largest city in the West Midlands region, after Birmingham, with a population of 337,400 in 2014.
Coventry is situated 95 miles (153km) northwest of central London, 19 miles (31km) east-south-east of Birmingham, 24 miles (39km) southwest of Leicester and 11 miles (18km) north of Warwick. Although harbouring a population of more than a third-of-a-million inhabitants, Coventry is not amongst the English Core Cities Group due to its proximity to Birmingham. Approximately half a million people live within 10 miles (16km) of Coventry city centre.
A waste system company paid the town about $800,000 in "tipping fees" in 2009. This allows the town property tax rate to be zero. However, the town still pays school taxes.

History
Etymology
Town was named for the birthplace of one of the founders, Major Elias Buel, who was born in Coventry, Connecticut.
Post bellum
A record exists from 1860, showing that the "Artillery Company" of the 3rd Regiment mustered for annual drill on June 5. An inventory shows they possessed one six pound brass cannon.
In 1861, the 3rd Vermont Infantry, Company B, was recruited in part from Coventry.
Coventry Festival
In 2004, what was billed as the final concert of the band Phish was held in Coventry on August 14–15. The concert was the single largest gathering of people in the town's history. Some fans had to be turned back due to heavy rains. Even so, with 65,000 attendees Coventry's augmented population was the largest in the state at that time, outranking Burlington, Vermont, which had around 39,000 people in the 2000 census.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 38.4 square miles (99km2) of which 37.7 square miles (98km2) is land and 0.6 square miles (1.6km2) (1.67%) is water.
Coventry was named in October 1711, the first town in the colonies to be named "Coventry" for Coventry in the West Midlands, United Kingdom.
Settlement and founding
The first house in Coventry was said to have been built near the shore of Lake Wangumbaug by Nathaniel Rust, a Hartford, Connecticut, man, originally from Northampton, Massachusetts. The entire Rust family is said to have made their final move to Coventry from Massachusetts in a group of a dozen families in 1709. Along with Nathaniel Rust, the names of some of the earliest settlers were David Lee, Thomas Root, Samuel Gurley, Ebenezer Searl, Joseph Petty, Benjamin James and Benjamin Carpenter. Four other settlers were also from Northampton and two from Reading.
