Colorphotography is photography that uses media capable of reproducing colors. By contrast, black-and-white (monochrome) photography records only a single channel of luminance (brightness) and uses media capable only of showing shades of gray.
In color photography, electronic sensors or light-sensitive chemicals record color information at the time of exposure. This is usually done by analyzing the spectrum of colors into three channels of information, one dominated by red, another by green and the third by blue, in imitation of the way the normal human eye senses color. The recorded information is then used to reproduce the original colors by mixing various proportions of red, green and blue light (RGB color, used by video displays, digital projectors and some historical photographic processes), or by using dyes or pigments to remove various proportions of the red, green and blue which are present in white light (CMY color, used for prints on paper and transparencies on film).
If you want to improve your understanding of colors in photography watch this one-hour session with Joanna Kustra. This is a recording of a live webinar with Joanna Kustra on color theories, finding your own style, color-grading and applying that all in practice.

THE ROLE OF COLOR IN PHOTOGRAPHY
Color plays a unique roll in photography when its used effectively. In the early days of photography, images were rendered in monochrome. Today we have the unique advantage of unlimited possibilities with technology to do almost anything we can imagine, but the challenge of color still remains. Color is most effective when it plays an important roll in the image.

Color Photography - Photographic Processes Series - Chapter 11 of 12
PLEASE NOTE, AN UPDATED VERSION OF THIS VIDEO IS AVAILABLE ON OUR CHANNEL.
Photography’s earliest practitioners dreamed of finding a method for reproducing the world around them in color. Some 19th century photographers experimented with chemical formulations aimed at producing color images by direct exposure, while others applied paints and powders to the surfaces of monochrome prints. Vigorous experimentation led to several early color processes, some of which were even patented, but the methods were often impractical, cumbersome and unreliable. This chapter explores early additive color processes as well as later subtractive processes like chromogenic color and the Kodachrome.

How to Use Colour (For Photographers & Visual Artists)
Get access to my courses on Skillshare for FREE for two weeks: https://www.skillshare.com/r/user/sophiajcarey
I thought I'd talk today about colour. As it's such a big component in my work - from photography to design - and a clear aspect in which my two creative practices overlap, I thought I'd share some thoughts on how to use colour, colour theory and colour psychology. Although this was designed with photographers in mind, this video will hopefully prove useful for all visuals artists.
I've also compiled a list of books/resources that I'd recommend you utilise if you're interested in learning more about colour, colour theory or colour psychology:

8 Tips for Better Color Photography
Why do some colour combinations work so well? How much colour is too much? How can you control colour in your shots when you can’t control the scene you’re shooting?
Good or bad use of colour is one of the biggest factors in why some photographic work looks amateurish, and some looks stunning. Learning how to use, control and edit colour is a vital part of learning colour photography. A lot of that is down to what you choose to put in the frame, but also there’s a large influence from how the colours are tweaked in post production. So I’ll take you through 8 quick tips, tricks, techniques and ideas for shooting and editing that will hopefully help you create photographs that use colour well.
