The Colleges of the Fenway is a collegiate consortium in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area of Boston, Massachusetts. The association promotes collaboration between local schools to enhance the variety of educational programs; to gain economics benefits through shared research, medical, and dining facilities; and to provide students and faculty with the opportunity to study, live, and teach in a small college environment while enjoying the resources of a major academic environment comparable to that of a large-scale university setting.
The six colleges, each with its own unique mission, offer specialized learning and experience on and off campus. Collectively, the COF represent more than 11,000 full-time undergraduate students, 7000 graduate students, nearly 1,200 full-time faculty, and more than 3,000 course offerings. Shared initiatives among the six colleges are aimed at enhancing the quality of education, enriching student experiences and reducing costs through sharing of resources. Collaborative student opportunities include cross-registration which broadens access to courses otherwise not available on the student’s home campus, career centers, intramural sports, performing arts, student life programs and activities, and study abroad opportunities. Students are able to cross register between institutions, and participate in shared social events planned by the Colleges of the Fenway and various groups throughout the campuses. Students may live at their school of attendance or in the campus dormitories of the other member schools.
The first parkway of the Emerald Necklace to be constructed, the Fenway's name was coined from an early description of the park that it runs alongside. It was first thought that it would promote a high-class neighborhood, but a majority of its early structures were for educational institutions. Current organizations on the parkway's route include the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, and many colleges and universities.
Colleges of the Fenway is a collaborative effort of five neighboring Boston-based colleges in the Fenway area. This collaboration was created to add value to student academic and social life while seeking innovative methods of investing in new services and containing the costs of higher education. Collectively, the colleges represent more than 12,000 undergraduate students. Our institutions are: Emmanuel College, MassArt, MCPHS University, Simmons College, Wentworth Institute of Technology
