Why U.S. Freight Trains Are So Much Better Than Passenger Rail
The United States lags behind the rest of the world when it comes to passenger trains but when it comes to the freight railroad the U.S. is dominating. The U.S. freight rail network operates over 140,000 miles of privately-owned track in every state except Hawaii, according to the Association of American Railroads. It moves one-third of all U.S. exports and roughly 40% of long distance freight volume.

Why Freight Trains Keep Getting Longer - Cheddar Explains
Have you noticed waits at railroad crossings have been getting longer? It's not just you, freight trains have been getting longer, from 5,000 feet to more than 10,000 feet long. Cheddar explains what's behind this trend and why it's more than just an inconvenience for those of us stuck at a light.
CORRECTION: At 4:46 in the video we mention railroads are building infrastructure to accommodate these longer trains to the tune of $25 million a year. Instead, that number should be $25 billion for total railroad investment on capital expenditures and maintenance.

2160p 4K HD!
A mega compilation I've put together of Freight Trains, Engineering Trains & Locomotive Movements caught on camera over the last few years. During the pandemic the Railway has played a more vital role transporting goods & cargo across the UK. In this 65 minute long video you will see non stop action from a mix of diesel & electric locomotives doing their thing hauling Freight, filmed from all over the UK from a variety of locations.
The main workhorse these days of British Rail Freight is of course the class 66. The 66's will show up just about anywhere so there is undoubtedly a huge amount of class 66's featured, operated by various operators in many colourful liveries.
Other than the class 66'...

Rail Freight at CEMEX UK - Transport for a Greener Future
Rail freight plays a vital part in ensuring a greener future for the construction industry.
It’s perfect for transporting large amounts of our products across the country, while taking trucks off the road and decreasing supply chain emissions.
We work closely with partners including Network Rail, GB Railfreight, DB Cargo and Victa to ensure our customers receive the right materials for their projects, when and where it is needed.
This short video talks through the rail operation at CEMEX UK, the role it plays in our ongoing sustainability strategy, and the future of this transport method.

ENORMOUS 15,000 FT HIGH SPEED BNSF Intermodal Double Stack Freight Trains In The California Desert 1
READ:
In today's day and age of precision scheduled railroading, train lengths are ever increasing, made possible by radio-controlled DPUs and limited only by the capability of the pneumatic air brake system. Great for railfans, not so great for railroad crew employment. Enjoy the action and stay tuned for more =)
Make sure to check out my partner's channel, 510trackside [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCc8AGGZGgcdsBlgiJYQbmtA], where you will find great railfanning footage like this and more. Enjoy =)

- For today, we decided to take a break from railway infrastructure projects and discussions about different countries’ railway systems, and instead, we’ll talk about one - let’s say - pure railway topic.
This video is therefore dedicated to the concept of a Marshalling Yard, and its role in the railway transport system.
The term Marshalling Yard actually varies depending on where you are, but, for example, in the US and Canada, it is known as the Classification Yard, while in Central Europe rather the Shunting Yard.
Besides a basic discussion about the role of the Marshalling yard in the railway system, the technology of work with trains and wagons in the yard, the types, and classifications of yards, we tried to show some examples of the world’s largest Marshalling yards.
Do you think we managed to present the main aspects of the railway technology in Marshalling yards? Tell us in the comments below!

It competes directly with the trucking industry to move goods around the country. Shipping everything from coal to cars to chemicals. And with the rise of e-commerce companies like Amazon, trains are increasingly moving consumer goods as well.
There are seven major freight railroads that connect North America. Union Pacific and BNSF dominate the west. CSX and Norfolk Southern are the primary east coast operators, while Kansas City Southern, along with Canadian Pacific and Canadian National run routes north and south. Amtrak, which is the United State’s passenger service, owns only 3% of the country’s rail.
In 2019, the five top railroads in the U.S. had a total operating revenue of more than $71 billion dollars.
But the freight rail industry’s success has not come without its challenges. The industry has dealt with bankruptcies, the lack of demand for coal and the more recent supply chain bottlenecks and rise in thefts. The seven top railroads, which own the majority of the tracks in North America, have also been criticized for power over the rail industry.
CNBC explores how freight railroads became so profitable and how the industry plans to evolve to stay on top.
Correction (February 3, 2022): At 1:41, Craig Fuller incorrectly states Amtrak is for-profit but Amtrak is not a for-profit corporation.

Other than the class 66's, look out for the now retired Freightliner class 86 electrics. Usually seen working in pairs up & down the WCML & GEML.
ALSO FEATURED: Class 59's, 90's, 56's, 70's, 88's, 68's, 37's, 47's, Royal Mail Class 325's & more!
All footage taken was filmed over the course of the pandemic. 2020 to early 2022.
The clips shown are in no particular order.
Sit back, turn up the volume & enjoy over an hour of British Freight Trains & Locomotives in action.
Thanks for watching this video!

Enjoy =)
