Clinical trial
Clinical trials are experiments done in clinical research. Such prospective biomedical or behavioral research studies on human participants are designed to answer specific questions about biomedical or behavioral interventions, including new treatments (such as novel vaccines, drugs, dietary choices, dietary supplements, and medical devices) and known interventions that warrant further study and comparison. Clinical trials generate data on safety and efficacy. They are conducted only after they have received health authority/ethics committee approval in the country where approval of the therapy is sought. These authorities are responsible for vetting the risk/benefit ratio of the trial - their approval does not mean that the therapy is 'safe' or effective, only that the trial may be conducted.
Depending on product type and development stage, investigators initially enroll volunteers and/or patients into small pilot studies, and subsequently conduct progressively larger scale comparative studies. Clinical trials can vary in size and cost, and they can involve a single research center or multiple centers, in one country or in multiple countries. Clinical study design aims to ensure the scientific validity and reproducibility of the results.

Clinical Trials, subtitled as Journal of the Society for Clinical Trials, is a peer-reviewed academic journal covering clinical trials and related subjects in the field of medical research methodology. It is published six times a year by SAGE Publications on behalf of The Society for Clinical Trials (SCT). The journal's main editor is Colin Begg (Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center).

Clinical Trials is abstracted and indexed in: Current Contents, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, and the Social Sciences Citation Index. According to the Journal Citation Reports, its 2010 impact factor is 2.356, ranking it 43rd out of 106 journals in the category "Medicine - Research & Experimental".
Scope
The journal focuses on statistical methods for analyzing and designing clinical trials, including methods to handle departures from randomization and quality of life assessment. Phase 2 trials study have the treatment effects the body, and how the treatment works for a certain type of cancer. If a new treatment is found to be safe and have some benefit, it goes to phase 3. This is when many participants are needed, usually more than 100 and sometimes thousands. Phase 3 trials compared the new treatment with the current treatment to see which one is better. One thing is certain with any phase trial, by taking part you will help future patients by helping today's scientists learn more about cancer. There are usually four phases of a clinical trial. Each phase helps move the study along, step by step. The purpose of a clinical trial could be to study a medicine, a therapy, or a method of preventing or detecting a disease.
What's a clinical trial? Before the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can approve a new treatment for use in people, clinical trial results must show the treatment works and does not cause harm to people. A clinical trial is a series of research studies that test new treatments before they are approved for people to use.
The FDA is the U.S. government agency that decides if new treatments or medical devices are safe and work effectively.

Clinical trials are research studies that involve people. Most clinical trials to test new cancer treatments are done in a series of steps, called phases. If a new treatment is successful in one phase it moves to the next phase. Let's take a look at the three main phases of clinical trials. Phase 1 trials are small enrolling less than thirty patients. Phase 1 trials are designed to find a safe dose of the new treatment, determine how the treatment should be given, and learn how it affects the body. If a safe doses found the new treatment goes to phase 2 testing. More patients are enrolled, usually 100 or less. Phase 2 trials study have the treatment effects the body, and how the treatment works for a certain type of cancer. If a new treatment is found to be safe and have some benefit, it goes to phase 3. This is when many participants are needed, usually more than 100 and sometimes thousands. Phase 3 trials compared the new treatment with the current treatment to see which one is better. One thing is certain with any phase trial, by taking part you will help future patients by helping today's scientists learn more about cancer. Clinical trial
Clinical trials are experiments done in clinical research. Such prospective biomedical or behavioral research studies on human participants are designed to answer specific questions about biomedical or behavioral interventions, including new treatments (such as novel vaccines, drugs, dietary choices, dietary supplements, and medical devices) and known interventions that warrant further study and comparison. Clinical trials generate data on safety and efficacy. They are conducted only after they have received health authority/ethics committee approval in the country where approval of the therapy is sought. These authorities are responsible for vetting the risk/benefit ratio of the trial - their approval does not mean that the therapy is 'safe' or effective, only that the trial may be conducted.
Depending on product type and development stage, investigators initially enroll volunteers and/or patients into small pilot studies, and subsequently conduct progressively larger scale comparative studies. Clinical trials can vary in size and cost, and they can involve a single research center or multiple centers, in one country or in multiple countries. Clinical study design aims to ensure the scientific validity and reproducibility of the results.
