Ceremony with military leaders and statesmen. French Premier Georges Clemenceau & President Raymond Poincare walk at head of procession. going past French soldiers standing several rows deep. Behind them come French generals including Henri Petain, Ferdinand Foch, Joseph Joffre, Weygandt and Gallieni, Field Marshal Sir Douglas Haig, US army's General Pershing and an unidentified Italian officer.
Clemenceau leading soldiers through a trench, he looks strangely out of place. At flag ceremony, Clemenceau hangs ribbon on some kind of a flag, then shakes hands with flag bearer. Clemenceau inspects troops. MS Clemenceau talking with African colonial troops.

Before he went on to become French Prime Minister (twice) and played an important role in the later stage of the First World War, Clemenceau studied medicine, fought in the Franco-Prussian war, travelled to various destinations across the globe and founded two newspapers.

Au cœur de l'histoire: Georges Clemenceau, ce tombeur de ministères (Franck Ferrand)
Il y a eu cent ans le mois dernier, Georges Clemenceau, le Tigre, était nommé par le président Poincaré à la tête du gouvernement français en pleine guerre. Franck Ferrand revient aujourd’hui sur cette grande figure de l’histoire politique française. Comment le « tombeur de ministères » s’est-il mué, en quelques mois, en « Père la Victoire » ? C’est une des questions que nous allons nous poser, tout à l’heure, avec Alexandre Duval-Stalla.
Nous partirons ensuite sur les traces de Clemenceau, dans le bocage vendéen de son enfance, de ses vacances et de sa retraite, et visiterons autant Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard que Mouilleron-en-Pareds, aux côtés de Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach ; quant à Lorena Martin, elle nous dira un mot d’un autre enfant du pays : le maréchal de Lattre.

Il y a eu cent ans le mois dernier, Georges Clemenceau, le Tigre, était nommé par le président Poincaré à la tête du gouvernement français en pleine guerre. Franck Ferrand revient aujourd’hui sur cette grande figure de l’histoire politique française. Comment le « tombeur de ministères » s’est-il mué, en quelques mois, en « Père la Victoire » ? C’est une des questions que nous allons nous poser, tout à l’heure, avec Alexandre Duval-Stalla.
Nous partirons ensuite sur les traces de Clemenceau, dans le bocage vendéen de son enfance, de ses vacances et de sa retraite, et visiterons autant Saint-Vincent-sur-Jard que Mouilleron-en-Pareds, aux côtés de Clémentine Portier-Kaltenbach ; quant à Lorena Martin, elle nous dira un mot d’un autre enfant du pays : le maréchal de Lattre.

Figure déterminante de la Première Guerre mondiale, il reste aujourd’hui encore une référence, un homme à la volonté tenace. Homme politique pourtant bien souvent décrié à son époque, cent ans après, son héritage est encore présent. Des personnalités de gauche comme de droite s’y réfèrent. Qu’a-t-il encore à nous dire aujourd’hui ? Clemenceau incarne-t-il une forme d’idéal républicain ? Jérôme Chapuis et ses invités ouvrent le débat.
