Paul "Wix" Wickens (born 27 March 1956) is a British musician, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer from Essex, United Kingdom. Wickens has worked with musicians such as Paul McCartney, Nik Kershaw, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Bon Jovi and many other artists. Wickens has been a member of McCartney's touring band since 1989.
In the early 1980s Wickens was a member of Palmer Industries, a group that issued two singles distributed by Stiff Records, "Mumbo Jumbo" and "Identify."
Wickens began touring with Paul McCartney in 1989. As of then, he has appeared on many of McCartney's albums and DVDs, and has become the musical director for many of McCartney's tours. He continues to tour with McCartney (as his keyboardist, occasional guitarist and backing vocalist), and of the four musicians in McCartney's touring band, he has worked with McCartney the longest by a considerable margin.
Wickens recorded on albums by Tommy Shaw of the American rock group Styx, The Damned, Tim Finn, Paul Carrack, Nik Kershaw, Jim Diamond, Boy George, and David Gilmour, and was the co-producer of the first Savage Progress album. He also was the keyboardist and programmer for Edie Brickell & New Bohemians album, Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars – which was where he first met Chris Whitten. Paul was also instrumental in making the BANDAGED album the success it was, in aid of BBC Children in Need.
EEG and EMG measure electrophysiological activity from outside of the head. While the temporal resolution achieved using these techniques is high, the spatial identification of the origin of the activity is far from trivial. This identification, usually referred as source reconstruction, is a classical ill-posed problem, and can only be solved under some assumptions. This webinar aims to instruct in the mathematical basis of source reconstruction, the different methods and their assumptions, and the suitability of each method for EEG or MEG. Speaker: Dr. Ricardo Bruña works as a researcher in Complutense University of Madrid, Technical University of Madrid and Universidad de La Laguna, in Spain, and is a member of the AI-Mind consortium. His research focuses in source reconstruction, us...
Raffaele Vecchione presents with Primo, Alessio and Lorenzo Il Palazzo winery in the US Market. Two labels tasted : "Maspino" 2018, a 100% Syrah and "Sal Terrae" 2018, the latest born in Il Palazzo, a Bordeaux blend that hit the spot at first shot. A team of ad hoc professionals will be guided in the tasting by Raffaele Vecchione, editor and founder of WinesCritic.com, who has personally chosen the wines after having reviewed more than 3000 labels in 2020. Importers, Wine Directors, Wine Managers and Wine Merchants will be connected to taste together, share impressions and points of view on the growth the winery gained in recent years. Special guests will be Marco Molesini, owner of one of the most famous wine shop in Italy, Enoteca Molesini in Cortona and chef Matteo Iuri of the Fam...
A lecture that introduces some of the basic concepts on lode gold deposits and their structural controls. Faults and ductile deformation features are discussed for these Au accumulations which are second only to gold placers.

Tor Vergata Astrophysics Seminars - Tommaso Alberti (INAF-IAPS, Rome) - A voyage through scales: solar wind turbulence and beyond - 09/06/2021 Abstract Turbulence is ubiquitous in nature and fascinated people at least since 6 centuries ago due to its "irregular" character. During the last two centuries several mathematicians and physicists devoted their studies on both theoretical and experimental aspects of the "irregular" and apparently casual motion of fluids. The modern theory of turbulence is a statistical description extending from the Kolmogorov self-similarity concept to the link between "irregular" and "chaotic". In the framework of dynamical systems terms as "irregular", "chaotic", "complex", "intermittency", have a precise meaning that need to be properly linked with scale-depe...
What is a Fox? And how we relate to it? This video will give you a general, easy, and scientific understanding of the ecology and behavior of fox species. However, we will give you something more! We will explore the fox role in different cultures through history and time, understanding why we think what we think about the fox! We will do so inspired by the study of ZooAnthropology, a method developed in Italy and France. From an ancient force of the Earth to a vermin to hunt, we hope that with this video you will develop your unique way of looking at foxes and reflect about how these animals are thought by your society.
INSPYRE, International School on Modern Physics and Research, organized by INFN Frascati National Laboratory is addressed to High School students and dedicated to the latest issues of modern physics and cutting edge technologies.
A cardinal notion in ecology is that the environment influences organisms. Yet, populations have the power to create and modify their surrounding environment, in turn influencing other species and ecosystem processes. I will present recent advacens in quantifying changes in ecological networks and functions due to plant facilitation and associated biodiversity. After examining cases where direct plant facilitation can prompt both pollination facilitation and interference, I will show how facilitation and complementarity effects between plants increase ecosystem functioning across trophic levels. I will conclude highlighting a novel mechanism underlying the consequences of biodiversity change and the constructive impact of biological populations on their environment.

Optimal Transport in Plants and Forests Prof. Amos Maritan - University of Padova Plenary Colloquium SIFS Abstract: Forests represent one of the most complex systems with a high degree of structural and functional diversity. Water transport through plants is a key driver of the carbon and other biogeochemical cycles and is a crucial link in plant adaptation to climate and vegetation response to climate change. First, we discuss the shape of the xylems, the conduits responsible for transporting water to the leaves: wider conduits transport more water but are more vulnerable to conduction-blocking gas embolisms, and cost more for a plant to build, a tension necessarily shaping xylem conduit diameters along plant stems. A solution based on Pareto multi-optimization leads to the predictio...

Been stuck inside his head for days
Can't seem to erase the pain
He's drained
But his mind is full
Once sweet sounds pierce his skull
Used to be so set in stone
Now the words scrape lines into his bones
He wants to keep them unknown
You can't see the message but you hear it's tone
He's scared to let them free
To give up this pain so easily
Would be
A reckless streak
A sign that his mind is weak
He needs
To plant his seeds
Inside there minds so the pain will ease
Let it grow, like a disease
Let the vines open eyes so that they can see.
Chorus.
And he will never sleep x3
Verse 2
He's trapped himself inside a cage
Of branch and thorn and truth mislaid
Dismayed, he cuts it down
Not to break through but to make a crown
Places it upon his head
Sealing seeds in killing thoughts dead
He wants to keep them unread
Hopes if he forgets it won't need to be said
He's silent he never sleeps
Could betray his pain within a dream
He believes he can deceive kill the weed at the root, shoot until it bleeds
He breaths, rasping relief, unknowing his victory is brief
The seeds seethe finally he speaks
Roots crawl out his mouth from the belly of the beast
Chorus
And he will never sleep x3
Verse 3
He bares his teeth ready to shout
But the roots just grow they won't fall out
In doubt, he reaches in
But they tunnel like worms into his skin
Tries to tear himself free
Trapped by his own reality
Like shackles upon his feet
The vines drag him back so that he any speak
Middle 8
And he will never sleep x2
Last verse.
He's sick of the sleepless nights
But the vines got a grip so deadly tight
Scared to let the pain go and fight
Let his voice carry poison to his blight
They bite, shrivel up and die
Drop from his maw as he speaks his mind
He cries, defies the pain and sighs
Relief in his defeat as he closes his eyes
Chorus
And he will never sleep x3
