Chromatography (/ˌkroʊməˈtɒɡrəfi/; from Greek χρῶμα chroma which means "color" and γράφειν graphein "to write") is the collective term for a set of laboratory techniques for the separation of mixtures.
The mixture is dissolved in a fluid called the mobile phase, which carries it through a structure holding another material called the stationary phase. The various constituents of the mixture travel at different speeds, causing them to separate. The separation is based on differential partitioning between the mobile and stationary phases. Subtle differences in a compound's partition coefficient result in differential retention on the stationary phase and thus changing the separation.
Chromatography may be preparative or analytical. The purpose of preparative chromatography is to separate the components of a mixture for more advanced use (and is thus a form of purification). Analytical chromatography is done normally with smaller amounts of material and is for measuring the relative proportions of analytes in a mixture. The two are not mutually exclusive.
This is the band's debut album and all songs were written by Julia Johnson and Mark Maclaine, except "Word for Word" which also credits Ed Webber and Tristan Kajanus, "Demons Die" which also credits Álvaro López and "Divine" which was written by Julia Johnson. The album was recorded, produced and mixed by Mark Maclaine (aka The Silence) at The Silence Corporation Studios, London.
Trivia
The opening song "Too Cold To Snow" was featured in the closing credits of 2006 film: Dolls directed by Susan Luciani and starring Joanna Lumley, Charles Dance and Denis Lawson.
The songs "I Spy" and "My Baby Only Cares For Me" were originally written for the 2003 ski/snowboard film: Snow's in the House 2 and they can be found as earlier incarnations on the film's soundtrack.
Songs from this album have been featured on a number of films and television series, including those shown on the BBC, Channel 4 and the Extreme Sports Channel.

Our topic for today is Chromatography.

Let us find out by the process of paper chromatography.
Chromatography is a technique of separating two or more dissolved solids which are present in a solution in very small quantities.
Take a strip of filter paper.
Draw a line with a pencil close to the lower edge of the paper.
Put a small drop of ink on the center of the line.

Take a jar containing some water.
Put the filter paper in it such that the drop of ink is just above the water level.
After sometime, the water starts gradually rising up by capillary action.
As the water moves up, it takes the dyes present in the ink along with it.
Slowly, we start seeing some different colors on the paper as the water rises up, these are the different dyes present in the ink.
Different dyes have different solubility levels and travel at different speeds as the water rises up.
As a result, we see different colors at different heights and the dyes get separated.
Hence, in this way paper chromatography is used to separate the different colors in a dye.

Our topic for today is Chromatography.
Does black ink consist of only black color or any other color as well?
Let us find out by the process of paper chromatography.
Chromatography is a technique of separating two or more dissolved solids which are present in a solution in very small quantities.
Take a strip of filter paper.
Draw a line with a pencil close to the lower edge of the paper.
Put a small drop of ink on the center of the line.
Let it dry for sometime.
In this video you'll learn:
- What chromatography is used for
- The process for setting up and carrying out paper chromatography
- What the mobile and stationary phases are
This video shows a paper chromatography experiment conducted to separate the different pigments present in a wet erase marker.

The term chromato means colour and graphy means to write. Chromatography technique is widely used for the separation of molecules from a mixture. Chromatography separation is based on the difference in solubility of sample molecules in the mobile phase and the stationary phase. The mobile phase is also known as Eluent. The mobile phase leaving the column is called eluate and the sample leaving the column is called eluite.
Chromatography Types - This lecture explains about different types of chromatography including gas chromatography, liquid chromatography such as size exclusion chromatography, affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography techniques.
