Smither’s family lived in Ecuador and the Rio Grande Valley in Texas before settling in New Orleans when Chris was three years old. He grew up in New Orleans, and lived briefly in Paris where he and his twin sister Mary Catherine attended French public school. It was in Paris that Smither got his first guitar - one his father brought him from Spain. Shortly after, the family returned to New Orleans where his father taught at Tulane University.
Leave the Light On is the second memoir written by Jennifer Storm. The book deals with Storm's recovery from drug and alcohol addiction and her experiences coming out of the closet. The book is the companion to Blackout Girl: Growing Up and Drying Out in America. It has been called "fearlessly honest" and "courageous" by We Magazine for Women.
Leave the Light On is an album by Beth Hart. Several versions of this album exist, ranging from the very original release in New Zealand in the spring of 2003 (on Warner Music NZ), the standard international version released worldwide later in the fall of 2003 (on Koch Records), then several specialized reissues in various European markets over the following few years. The German release (on Universal Music GmbH) contains entirely new recordings of three previously released songs, as well as three newer songs that would later be re-recorded for her next studio album 37 Days.
"Light On" is the first official single released from American Idolseason 7 winner David Cook's major label debut studio album, David Cook (2008). It was released through RCA Records on September 30, 2008. The song has been well-received, reaching No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and being certified Platinum by the RIAA.
Song information
"Light On" was co-written by Soundgarden and Audioslave front man Chris Cornell, as well as famed producer/songwriter Brian Howes. The song was produced by Grammy winning producer Rob Cavallo, who has produced hits for Green Day and Kid Rock.
The song also displays Cook's powerful upper register, with the singer hitting a high C at the end of each verse.
Release
The song's lyrics were posted on Cook's official website on September 22, 2008. "Light On" officially debuted on AOL Music's PopEater section on September 23, 2008. It became available for radio airplay later on the 23rd, but officially went for adds on Mainstream Top 40, AC, and Rock radio on October 13, 2008. It was released via iTunes and Amazon on September 30, 2008.
Light On is a jazz album by trumpeter-composer Tom Harrell released in 2007 through HighNote Records. This is the first album recorded by Harrell's then recent quintet. The group went on to release five albums between 2007 and 2012 and forms the core of a sixth album released in 2013. The group consists of Wayne Escoffery on sax, Danny Grissett on piano, Ugonna Okegwo on bass, and Johnathan Blake on drums. In 2007, the album topped the U.S. jazz radio chart and received a SESAC jazz award in the following year.
Reception
In reviewing the album for AllMusic, jazz commentator Scott Yanow wrote, "Light On is a superior set of modern jazz".All About Jazz praised the group's cohesiveness and balance, and in particular noted Escoffery's delivery. Similarly JazzTimes called the quintet's delivery "immaculate".

Live Tonight on Millennium Stage: With music described by the New York Times as “serenely intricate,” Chris Smither is known for his enduring, singular guitar —a beat-driven finger-picking, strongly influenced by the playing of Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin’ Hopkins, and layered over the ever-present backbeat of his rhythmic, tapping feet (always mic’d in performance).

Chris Smither and Rusty Belle perform "Leave The Light On," from the new album "Still On The Levee." Recorded live at The Parlor Room in Northampton, Massachusetts.
If I were young again, I’d pay attention - To that little-known dimension A taste of endless time It's just like water – it runs right through our fingers But the flavor of it lingers - Like a rich, red wine In those days we were single – we lived them one by one Now we hardly see ‘em – they don’t walk - they run But I've got plenty left I’ve set my sight on Don’t wait up - Leave the light on - I’ll be – home - soon Short break I’ve never seen my life in such a hurry - But if I stop to worry – I get left behind It’s just a party, but you don’t get invitations – and there’s just one destination You better be on time. For years we rhymed in couplets - And we sang ‘em two by two Now we hardly rhyme at all – but here’s a few And if they hurt, there’s bullets left to bite on Don’t wait up - Leave the light on - I’ll be – home - soon Short break That drummer in my head needs inspiration There’s a lack of syncopation – and it holds me to a line It’s just so hard to leave these cages that we’re thinking By stages we’re just sinkin’ - to a slow decline For years we lived in waltz time – we danced them three by three Now it’s hard to dance, but if you stick with me – We’ve got what we need to spend the night on - Don’t wait up - Leave the light on - I’ll be – home - soon Break These races that we’ve run were not for glory - No moral to this story – We run for peace of mind. But the race we’re running now is never-ending – space and time are bending And there’s no finish line - I will live to be a hundred - I was born in ’44 - 33 to go, but I ain’t keepin’ score - I've been left for dead before - but I still fight on –Don’t wait up – Leave the light on I’ll be home soon 'Cause I been left for dead before - but I still fight on – Don’t wait up – Leave the light on
