The Chondoist Chongu Party is a united front party in North Korea and is labeled as democratic by the government of the country. The party was founded on February 5, 1946, by a group of followers of the Chondogyo (or Ch'ŏndogyo) religion. The founder-leader of the party was Kim Tarhyŏn.
History
The Chondogyo movement was founded in response to the Christian missionary activities in Korea in the end of the nineteenth century. The Chondogyo movement became a hotbed of Korean nationalism, and Chondogyo farmers took active part in the Donghak Peasant Revolution in 1894 and the movement played an important role in the March 1st Movement in 1919. The communist parties of the Soviet Union and Korea perceived Chondogyo as an "utopian peasant movement".
By 1945 Chondogyo was the second largest religion in northern Korea, with 1.5 million believers. The Chondoist Chongu Party assembled 98,000 members after a few months of existence, and was larger (in membership) than the Communist Party. In December 1946 it had 204,387 members.

Plot: Choe Hyon Dok is indulged in anti-communism nearly all his life. At the end, he is forsaken by the nation and lives in exile in a foreign country. But in the embrace of his beloved home, his motherland he finds the genuine way to resurrection and contribution to the nation at last.
Choe Hyon Dok played by Choe Chang Su
In his work "North Korean Cinema - A History" Johannes Schönherr writes about the series:
"Parts one to four, released in 1992, make up the first section, titled Choe Hyon Dok. According to the North Korean booklet on those parts of the series, "The film ... shows how the main character Choe Hyon Dok, who has followed an anti-communist path and is roaming about in an alien land like an 'international orphan' in the twilight of his life, deserted by his fellow countrymen, finds the genuine road of life, the road of rebirth in the embrace of his dear home and fatherland.'
In fact, Choe Hyon Dok was based on the life of Choi Duk-shin (Choe Deok-sin) (1914-1989), who was born in North Korea and had served in the Southern Army during the Korean War. The division he led committed at least two major massacres on South Korean civilians suspected of aiding the North during the war. He became Foreign Minister of South Korea in the early 1960's and later ambassador to West Germany. In the 1970s, we was a leader in the Chondoist religious movement, a Korean peasant religion, and got into problems with Park Chung-hee because of this religious activism. In 1977, he went to exile in the U.S. The U.S. is the "alien land" referred to in the North Korean film description. In 1986, he relocated to Pyongyang and advanced there to 'chairman of the Central Committe of the Chondoist Chong Wu Party, vice chairman of the Committe for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland and chairman of the Korean Religionists Council.' " (Schönherr, 2012: 117)
"The basic content of "The Nation and Destiny" is that the destiny of the country and nation is immediately the destiny of an individual and that the life of the latter belongs to the life of the former. Those who want to shape their own destiny truly must consider the country and nation as the base of their life and the nest of their happiness and love them ardently they must find the worth and value of their life in devoting their all for the independence and prosperity of the country and nation" - Kim Jong Il

SUMMARY
=======
Cheondoism (spelled Chondoism in North Korean sources) (Korean: Cheondogyo; hanja 天道教; hangul 천도교; literally "Religion of the Heavenly Way") is a 20th-century Korean religious ideology, based on the 19th-century Donghak religious movement founded by Ch'oe Che-u and codified under Son Pyŏng-Hi. Cheondoism has its origins in the peasant rebellions which arose starting in 1812 during the Joseon dynasty.
Cheondoism is essentially Confucian in origin, but incorporates elements of Korean shamanism. It places emphasis on personal cultivation, social welfare in the present world, and rejects any notion of an afterlife. A splinter movement is Suwunism.

SUMMARY
=======
In the period before the founding of the DPRK, there were two other parties established, the DemocraticParty and the Chondoist Chongu Party; however, they currently serve a ceremonial role only, ...
