Because it is a gathering place and a home to many immigrants, Chinatown has a diverse culture and population. The total population in Chinatown is 4,444 according to 2010 census data. This is almost a 25% increase since 2000, when there were only 3,559 people. The white population rose 241.7% from 228 in 2000 to 779 in 2010. The Black and African American population rose from 82 in 2000 to 139 in 2010, showing an almost 70% increase. The American Indian population dropped 75% from 2000 to 2010, going from 8 to 2 residents. The Asian population grew about 7.5% from 3,190 in 2000 to 3,416 in 2010. People who identified as another race grew from 18 in 2000 to 30 in 2010, which is an 66.7% increase. For those who identified as more than one race, that group grew from 32 in 2000 to 77 in 2010, which resulted in a 140.6% increase. With more white residents moving into Chinatown, there is worry over gentrification. For instance, the Asian population dropped to 46% in 2010. Another major concern is that historic towns and places are becoming more touristy and less cultural. Between Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, Boston has shown the highest increase in non-Asian residents moving into non-family shared households with a 450% increase from 1990 to 2000.
Boston (1833–1850), was an outstanding chestnut Thoroughbred racehorse and a Leading sire in North America three times from 1851 to 1853. He started in about 45 races, winning 40 of these, including 15 in succession. Boston was later one of the initial inductees into the Hall of Fame.
Breeding
He was a chestnut stallion with a white blaze on his nose and he was foaled in Richmond, Virginia. Boston was bred by the Virginia attorney John Wickham (who had been Aaron Burr's counsel in his trial for treason). He was by the very good racehorse, Timoleon (by the great Sir Archy), his dam was Sister to Tuckahoe by Ball’s Florizel. Boston was inbred to Diomed in the third generation (3m x 3f). He was a half-brother to the Shylock mare who founded a successful family. They were from the number 40 family which traced back to the imported mare, Kitty Fisher.
As a two-year-old, Boston was lost by his breeder in a card game and was given to Wickham's friend Nathaniel Rives, of Richmond to repay his debt of $800. He was named after a popular card game and later given the nickname of "Old Whitenose". Boston had a wilful temperament and was difficult to train. Sent to the stable of John Belcher, and then to the trainer L. White, and then back to Belcher, White said, "The horse should either be castrated or shot—preferably the latter."
The Boston refers to a series of various step dances, considered a slow Americanized version of the waltz presumably named after where it originated. It is completed in one measure with the weight kept on the same foot through two successive beats. The "original" Boston is also known as the New York Boston or Boston Point.

Downtown Boston's Chinatown is the cultural heart of the Chinese community and a lively late-night hub. Asian eateries range from dumpling houses and dim sum palaces to seafood spots and upscale lounges. Bakeries, food markets and gift shops dot the area. At the entrance to the neighborhood, contemporary Chinatown Park features a river-inspired fountain, plants native to Asia and a square that draws chess players.

HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR!

The Chinatown Project is a group of creatives who were inspired to begin this storytelling project after seeing the devastating effects that COVID-19 had on all small businesses and especially the Chinatown community. Our mission is to create a digital archive of the businesses of Boston Chinatown through interviews, photography, and videography. We believe that photography and videography are powerful storytelling tools that will easily convey the rich culture and diversity of Boston Chinatown for everyone to appreciate and be able to look back on for years to come.

First aired on May 3, 1991. The case of Three Asians wanted in gambling club massacre (Hung Tiem Pham). The producer was unable to recruit Vietnamese actors so most of the actors are Chinese and are speaking in Cantonese or Mandarin.
