The China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra (Chinese: 中国广播民族乐团; also called Central Broadcasting Traditional Instruments Orchestra) is a major Chinese orchestra based in Beijing, comprising a large group of traditional Chinese musical instruments. It is a consolidation of the Chinese Film Orchestra Chinese Music Orchestra (中国电影乐团民族乐团), which was founded in 1949, and the original China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra (中国广播民族乐团), which was founded in 1953. They came to the United States under the auspices of the Chinese Music Society of North America.
Its most famous conductor was Peng Xiuwen. Recordings by the Orchestra of pieces such as "Dance of the Yao People," "Purple Bamboo Melody," "The Moon Reflected in Two Springs," "The Moon On High," "Days of Emancipation," "Dancing in the Moonlight," and "Spring on a Moonlit River" were disseminated widely throughout China and still widely known, and a compilation of the orchestra's music entitled Phases of the Moon: Traditional Chinese Music, produced by the China Record Company and released by CBS in 1981, was one of the first and best known recordings of Chinese music in the West. Succeeding Peng Xiuwen in 1997 as the orchestra's conductor was Peng Jiapeng (彭家鹏, b. 1965).
The term Chinese orchestra is most commonly used to refer to the modern Chinese orchestra that is found in China and various overseas Chinese communities. This modern Chinese orchestra first developed out of Jiangnan sizhu ensemble in the 1920s into a form that is based on the structure and principles of a Western symphony orchestra but using Chinese instruments. The orchestra is divided into four sections - wind, plucked strings, bow strings, and percussion, and usually performs modernized traditional music called guoyue.
The term may also be used to describe ancient Chinese orchestras that existed since the Shang Dynasty and was used at royal court and later during Confucian ceremonies.
According to recent archaeological findings, ancient Chinese music was much more developed and sophisticated than is generally believed. Music had already been an important element in traditional ritualistic ceremonies during the Shang Dynasty (c. 1550-1111 BC), and it reached one of its greatest peaks during the Zhou Dynasty (c. 1111-222 BC). The ancient form of the orchestra was used to play a form of ceremonial music known as yayue.
China, officially the People's Republic of China (PRC), is a sovereign state in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.35 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party, with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing. It exercises jurisdiction over 22 provinces; five autonomous regions; four direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing); two mostly self-governing special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau); and claims sovereignty over Taiwan.
Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's second-largest country by land area, and either the third or fourth-largest by total area, depending on the method of measurement. China's landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south. The Himalaya, Karakoram, Pamir and Tian Shan mountain ranges separate China from South and Central Asia. The Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, the third- and sixth-longest in the world, run from the Tibetan Plateau to the densely populated eastern seaboard. China's coastline along the Pacific Ocean is 14,500 kilometres (9,000 mi) long, and is bounded by the Bohai, Yellow, East and South China Seas.

Modi's India is building a new base for nuclear-armed submarines in the Bay of Bengal called INS Varsha in a bid to curb China’s naval footprint growing in India’s backyard. The Bay of Bengal is a critical shipping lane and some China experts believe the waterway could play a key role in any conflict over Taiwan or the South China Sea. WSJ examined satellite images to see how INS Varsha has expanded and explores how this project is forming the backbone of New Delhi’s plans to keep Beijing’s ambitions in the region in check. China's PLA in Turmoil? China's Defence Minister Is "Under Investigation" | Vantage with Palki Sharma China’s Defence Minister Admiral Dong Jun is under investigation for corruption, marking the third consecutive defence minister to face such charges. President Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has already removed Dong’s predecessors, General Li Shangfu and Wei Fenghe, from their roles. These developments highlight deeper concerns about corruption in China’s military, raising doubts about its capability to achieve Xi’s goal of being ready to invade Taiwan by 2027. Dong’s refusal to meet US Secretary Lloyd Austin at a recent Laos defence meeting further underscores the strained US-China military ties. What does this mean for the PLA and Xi’s leader...
