During the same year the nearby New Ballarat Lead was discovered.
But by 1859 the easily found gold of the Indigo Lead was worked out and the majority of alluvial miners left for other fields.
Some of the remaining miners sunk a shaft during 1859 and struck luck with the Chiltern Lead.
Finally, when the gold dwindled during the early 1900s, so did Chiltern.
Chiltern today is a peaceful township nestled in the hills of the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park.
It is a wonderfully preserved gold-rush era town filled with good old-fashioned hospitality and warmth.
A visit to Chiltern not only provides the experience of viewing a well-preserved gold rush town, it also offers the opportunity to try the local goldfields in the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park.
Be sure to check current guidelines of where you are allowed to prospect.
Chiltern, the perfect location for a weekend getaway full of historic goldfields history and the opportunity to unearth a little yellow yourself.

My thanks goes out to the staff members of Chiltern Railways who were able to make it possible for me to make this film. There help has been grately appreciated. As always please like comment and subscribe to this channel and stay tuned for more driver's eye views coming soon in the near future. From there we can accelerate to the maximum permited speed of 100mph. The last scheduled stop before London is Banbury and we run non-stop through the Chiltern Hills where the company and the main line take it's name from. This is a wondeful journey to experience on board a Class 168 Clubman/Turbostar. Apologises in some shots the sun was quite low in the morning but hopefully it won't effect the viewing too much.
My thanks goes out to the staff members of Chiltern Railways who were able to make it possible for me to make this film. There help has been grately appreciated. As always please like comment and subscribe to this channel and stay tuned for more driver's eye views coming soon in the near future. All that is left for you now to do is sit back relax and enjoy this driver's eye view from Kidderminster to London via the Chiltern Main Line.

Angels we have heard on high Sweetly singing o'er the plains And the mountains in reply Echoing their joyous strains: Gloria in excelsis Deo Gloria in excelsis Deo Shepherds, why this jubilee? Why your joyous strains prolong? What the gladsome tidings be Which inspire your heav'nly song? Gloria in excelsis Deo Gloria in excelsis Deo Come to Bethlehem and see Him whose birth the angels sing Come adore on bended knee Christ the Lord, the newborn King Gloria in excelsis Deo
