Cheviot (New Zealand electorate)
Cheviot was a parliamentary electorate in the Canterbury region of New Zealand, from 1858 to 1890. It was named after what was then one of the country's largest sheep stations, Cheviot Hills.
Population centres
The initial 24 New Zealand electorates were defined by Governor George Grey in March 1853, based on the New Zealand Constitution Act 1852 that had been passed by the British government. The Constitution Act also allowed the House of Representatives to establish new electorates, and this was first done in 1858, when four new electorates were formed by splitting existing electorates. Cheviot was one of those four electorates, and it was established in areas that previously belonged to the Wairau and Christchurch Country electorates.
The Cheviot electorate was entirely rural. The returning officer, George Leslie Lee, decided on two polling stations for the first election in December 1859, and they were both sheep stations of runholders: Robinson's station Cheviot Hills, and Mason's Old Station at Waituhi Creek.

Cheviot (cloth)
Cheviot, woollen fabric made originally from the wool of Cheviot sheep and now also made from other types of wool or from blends of wool and man-made fibres in plain or various twill weaves.
Cheviot wool possesses good spinning qualities, since the fibre is fine, soft, and pliable.
Cheviot fabric has a crispness of texture similar to serge but is slightly rougher and heavier.
Cheviot fabric may be produced either from woollen or worsted yarns according to the character, texture, and feel desired in the finished fabric. Some qualities are produced from crossbred worsted yarns adapted for furnishing crispness.
Cheviot suitings for sportswear are made from harder spun worsted yarns, and some are also made from botany worsted.
Cheviot shirting is a stout, twilled, cotton fabric woven with small geometrical patterns or with warp stripes and bleached weft.

Yarım asır önce Avustralya’nın Başbakanı Harold Holt, Cheviot Plajı’nda denize girdi ve bir daha geri çıkamadı. Kimilerine göre bu planlı bir kaçıştı, olayın arka perdesinde birçok esrarengiz detay yatıyordu. Bu esrarengiz kayboluş sonrasında Harold’un metresler, eşi, dostları kısacası onu tanıyan herkes artık şüpheli konumundaydı.
1966 senesinde Başbakan Robert Menzies emekli oldu ve koltuğunu yeni başkan Harold Holt’a devretti. Harold 27 yaşında parlementoya girmiş, 30 yaşında bakan olmuş yıllarca meclisin tozunu yutmuş deneyimli bir isimdi. Artık sahne sırası ondaydı, Avustralya’nın 17.Başbakanı olmuştu ışıklar üzerindeydi.
Harold ilk icraat olarak güvenlik önlemlerini biraz daha alt seviyeye indirdi. Ona göre; bu gereksiz koruma ordusu ve fuzuli prosedürler ,sanki halkla başbakan arasına bir set koymak için tasarlanmıştı. Harold yaşayacağı bir tecrübesi sonrası bu kararını değiştirecekti pişman olacaktı.

After Boris Johnson announced his resignation as prime minister, he was widely described as leading a ‘caretaker government’. But this episode has highlighted that the conventions surrounding such governments are far from clear in the UK. What are the UK’s caretaker conventions? When do they apply? Should the existing conventions be clarified, codified, or reformed? If so, what lessons might be learned from experience in other countries? A distinguished panel discusses these timely questions.
Speakers:
Lord (Gus) O’Donnell is a crossbench peer who served as Cabinet Secretary from 2005 to 2011, and oversaw the drafting of the UK’s Cabinet Manual.
Lord (Gavin) Barwell is a Conservative peer who worked as Theresa May’s Downing Street Chief of Staff from 2017 to 2019, including a similar ‘caretaker’ period following her own resignation as prime minister.
Professor Anne Tiernan is an Adjunct Professor at the Griffith Business School, and the co-author of Caretaker Conventions in Australasia: Minding the Shop for Government.

Richard Arnold began his scientific career as an astronomer, but 25 years ago blundered into the world of statistics, and hasn’t managed to find his way out again– the field being too full of fascinating problems seemingly touching on every branch of knowledge.
In this lecture, Professor Arnold from the School of Mathematics and Statistics will discuss some of the statistical questions he works on, including seismology, clustering and reliability. It was all about graffiti, and chasin' the girls,
Running from the law and bar room brawls,
Getting arrested callin' home with those late night calls, (When we were young)
Sorry mom, I'm in jail again,
Tonight I got arressted with a couple of friends,
You can either pick me up or send me some mends,
Either way ma, it looks like I messed up again,
Back to my P.O., or Rehab, or up north, to see dad,
it's just the way it goes when you were born to be bad,
Actin' a fool, skippin' school, flicking off the principal,
It's hard for mom to believe me but she's so convincable.
Shoplifting gifts for the girls, with my boys,
Walking out the sex shop, pockets full of sex toys,
And, we'd bring the noise like you'd wouldn't believe,
At 16 started getting tattoo's up my sleeve,
Throwing up the 32, taking part in dirty deeds,
So if you wanna get high, I got whatever you need,
And if you wanna get em' up, I ain't afraid to bleed,
I've been to Y.A. 3 times, so don't you step to me,
While you brag to your parents about your A's and B's,
I was underneath the bleachers with a THC,
a GED, a Chemical Dependency, and a PHD in Whiskey and Stonerology,
I lead the breakthrough in ways to use technology,
You can learn from my mistakes but it's more fun to follow me,
And it's never too late, I don't hate who I've become,
So let's smoke another one and remember, when we were young.
