Chesney Henry "Chet" Baker, Jr. (December 23, 1929 – May 13, 1988) was an American jazz trumpeter, flugelhornist and vocalist.
Baker earned much attention and critical praise through the 1950s, particularly for albums featuring his vocals (Chet Baker Sings, It Could Happen to You). Jazz historian David Gelly described the promise of Baker's early career as "James Dean, Sinatra, and Bix, rolled into one." His well-publicized drug habit also drove his notoriety and fame; Baker was in and out of jail frequently before enjoying a career resurgence in the late 1970s and '80s.
Baker was born and raised in a musical household in Yale, Oklahoma; his father, Chesney Baker, Sr., was a professional guitar player, and his mother, Vera (née Moser) was a talented pianist who worked in a perfume factory. His maternal grandmother, Randi Moser, was Norwegian. Baker began his musical career singing in a church choir. His father introduced him to brass instruments with a trombone, which was replaced with a trumpet when the trombone proved too large.
"Look for the Silver Lining" is a popular song with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by B.G. DeSylva. It was written in 1919 for the unsuccessful musical Zip, Goes a Million. In 1920 it was published and reused in the musical Sally whence it was popularized by Marilyn Miller. Among others, the song was later covered several times by Judy Garland, whose version also became, and remains, well-known.
A 1949 biopic with the same title as the song is about Marilyn Miller.
The song was the basis for the ILGWU anthem "Look for the union label". It is lampooned by another song, "Look for a Sky of Blue," in the satirical 1959 musical Little Mary Sunshine.
Marion Harris' recording of this song is (anachronistically) featured in a memorable dance scene between Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley in the popular Masterpiece Classic series "Downton Abbey". The scene can be viewed in Episode 8 of Series 2 where the plot-line reached early-to-mid 1919; however, the recording was not made until 29 December 1920.
Look for the Silver Lining is a 1949 musical biography film directed by David Butler and written by Phoebe Ephron, Henry Ephron and Marian Spitzer. It is a biography of Broadway singer-dancer Marilyn Miller. It stars June Haver and Ray Bolger. It was nominated for an Academy Award for best scoring for a musical picture in 1950. Although the film was popular and made a profit, Haver's performance of Marilyn Miller has been somewhat overlooked in comparison to the more memorable portrayal of Miller by Judy Garland in Till the Clouds Roll By, the 1946 MGM musical biography of the composer Jerome Kern. The film was released by Warner Bros. on July 30, 1949.
Silver Lining, A Silver Lining or The Silver Lining may refer to:
The Silver Lining is a 1919 British silent sports film directed by A.E. Coleby and starring Billy Wells, Ella Milne and Richard Buttery. It is set in the world of horseracing.
The Silver Lining is an unfinished four-chapter episodic video fangame based on the King's Quest series, which was developed and released in free download format by Phoenix Online Studios for Microsoft Windows starting July 18, 2010. The most recent release, Episode 4: ‘Tis in My Memory Locked. And You Yourself Shall Hold The Key Of It, was released on November 8, 2011. Until the release of King's Quest, the official ninth installment of the series, TSL remained the first release in over fifteen years to feature Graham's family in a new adventure (since King's Quest VII: The Princeless Bride).
Although the game features 3D graphics, its gameplay departs from Sierra Online's last King's Quest release, The Mask of Eternity, which was mainly criticized for its RPG-like atmosphere, and settles into that created by the previous titles (for example, the setting returns to the land of the Green Isles, visited in King's Quest VI: Heir Today, Gone Tomorrow, while some recurring characters include Mannanan from King's Quest III: To Heir Is Human and Pan from King's Quest IV: The Perils of Rosella). The plot itself revolves around King Graham as he desperately seeks the help of ancient druidic artifacts to undo the evil cast upon his children, Alexander and Rosella.
Frames is the fifth studio album by Lee DeWyze. It is the second album that he has released since he won the ninth season of American Idol. Thirteen tracks are included on the standard release, while acoustic versions of each song are available on the deluxe edition. DeWyze has six solo writing credits on the album and was a co-writer on all of the other songs, collaborating with Drew Pearson, Julian Emery, Justin Irvin, Shelly Fairchild, Rick Seibold, Matthew Wilder and Toby Gad. DeWyze also served as one of the album's producers, along with Pearson, Emery, Seibold, Wilder, Gad, Phil Allen and Dr Zero.
RCA Records dismissed DeWyze from his contract in 2011, due to the poor performance of his previous album, Live It Up. Undaunted by this setback, DeWyze set out to write music that would be more in line with his own vision, feeling that RCA had not understood him as an artist. Having previously released two independent albums, he went back to the folk rock sound of those albums, while also incorporating elements of pop, rockabilly and bluegrass. Attracting Vanguard Records with his new music, he signed with the label in early 2013 and was given creative freedom while working on Frames. The album was released on August 20, 2013 to positive reviews. It debuted at number 116 on the Billboard 200 Chart and at number 38 on the Top Rock Albums Chart.

Our friend and audio guru Mark Milano has shared his amazing new stereo version of Judy Garland's gorgeous performance of "Look For The Silver Lining" from "Till The Clouds Roll By" (1946). Thanks to today's technology, he was able to split the vocal and the music into separate channels. It's a joy! Judy pre-recorded the song on October 2, 1945, then filmed it on October October 16, 1945. She was pregnant with daughter Liza Minnelli at the time and although it's been assumed that the setting was created to hide her pregnancy it was, in fact, how Broadway legend Marilyn Miller performed it in the original show (Judy is playing the role of Ms. Miller here). Look for the silver lining
Whenever a cloud appears in the blue.
Remember somewhere the sun is shining,
And so the right thing to do,
Is make it shine for you.
A heart, full of joy and gladness,
Will always banish sadness and strife.
So always look for the silver lining,
