So this then begs the question: how did Prince Edward Island become a full Canadian province in the first place and why do so few Canadians not live there today?
In this episode we'll cover the physical geography of Prince Edward Island and what it looks and feels like today. Then we'll cover the history of how the island was given full provincial status in Canada. And fi...

A half hour's drive off the Canadian mainland in the calm waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence lies Canada's smallest province of Prince Edward Island. Charlottetown, its diminutive provincial capital (Canada's smallest!) is a pleasant place filled with Victorian-era architecture, pristine boulevards, a splendid waterfront, and a hip, trendy vibe that would make any millennial feel right at home. Look past the mainly Anne of Green Gables-themed tourist kitsch and you'll find a friendly, welcoming, and fast-growing New England-like community of Maritimers that offers some of the best restaurants, breweries, and hospitality in Canada; a completely unpretentious capital that is small in size, but big on charm.
In this video, I take you around some of Charlottetown's most iconic attractions, from Victoria Row with charming shops and the excellent Receiver Coffee, to the historic St. Dunstan's Basilica, to the Province House National Historic Site, where Canada's Confederation was born. No visit to Charlottetown is complete without sampling its food, and there's no better place to do so than the Brickhouse Kitchen & Bar. There, I sampled some of the island's best seafood, including a bowl of its signature PEI mussels. I also visited the excellent PEI Brewing Company to learn a bit about beer production on the island and sample a tipple of the local brew, sampled some excellent potato-based fudge from Oh Fudge PEI, and enjoyed some of Canada's best ice cream at Prince Edward Island's famous Cow's Creamery before heading back to my beautiful boutique hotel - the Hotel on Pownal - to rest up before catching the ferry to Maritime Quebec the following day.

Prince Edward Island is Canada's smallest province by both size and population. It's so small, in fact, that less than 1/10th of 1% of all Canadians live there.
And finally, we'll discuss the current population trends of the island and why it still lags so far behind its Canadian and Maritime neighbors.
