Bryan Ferry, CBE (born 26 September 1945) is an English singer, songwriter and musician born in Washington, Tyne and Wear. His vocal style has been described as an "elegant, seductive croon". He also established a distinctive image and sartorial style; according to The Independent, in common with his contemporary David Bowie, he influenced a generation with both his music and his appearance.
The town is the subject of the classic Irish folk song "Carrickfergus", a 19th-century translation of an Irish-language song (Do Bhí Bean Uasal) from Munster, which begins with the words, "I wish I was in Carrickfergus."
The council headquarters were in Carrickfergus and the council administered the town, on the north shore of Belfast Lough, and surrounding area, which extended from Greenisland in the south-west to Whitehead in the east. The borough was 32 square miles (83km2), with a population of just over 39,000.
1 Walker (like F. W. S. Craig in his compilations of election results for Great Britain) classifies Tory candidates as Conservatives from 1832. The name Conservative was gradually adopted as a description for the Tories. The party is deemed to be named Conservative from the 1835 general election.

LYRICS:
Tell her I'll be waiting
in the usual place
with the tired and weary
and there's no escape.
To need a women
you've got to know
how the strong get weak
and the rich get poor.
Slave to love
Oh Oh
Slave to love
You're running with me
don't touch the ground
we're the restless hearted
not the chained and bound.
The sky is burning
a sea of flame
though your world is changing
I will be the same.
Slave to love
oh oh
Slave to love
Slave to love
na na na na
na na na na
And I can't escape
I'm a slave to love
Can you help me?
Oh oh
Can you help me?
The storm is breaking
or so it seems
we're too young to reason
too grown to dream.
Now spring is turning
your face to mine
I can hear your laughter
I can see your smile.
Slave to love
na na na na
na na na na
And I can't escape
I'm a slave to love.

Described as "one of most innovative and distinctive singers and lyricists to emerge in popular music" Ferry's sophisticated, elegant and glamorous on stage persona has won him fans around the world. His vocal genius is said to lie in his peerless ability to merge musical styles "from french chanson, through to classical crooner to hard edged rock."
Imprinting his own style into his recordings and performances successfully is reflected in his recognition as a highly successful solo artist in his own right; he has achieved great success with 5 top 10 UK chart singles as well as 10 UK chart top 10 albums (including the Number 1s "Boys and Girls" (1985) and "Street Life," (1986). Ferry has also won critical acclaim, most notably, his 2001 Grammy Nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for 1999's "As Time Goes By".

Lyrics:
T´ain´t no big thing
To wait for the bell to ring
T´ain´t no big thing
The toll of the bell
Aggravated - spare for days
I troll downtown the red light place
Jump up bubble up - what´s in store
Love is the drug and I need to score
Showing out, showing out, hit and run
Boy meets girl where beat goes on
Stitched up tight, can´t shake free
Love is the drug, got a hook on me
Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug for me
Late that night I park my car
Stake my place in the singles bar
Face to face, toe to toe
Heart to heart as we hit the floor
Lumber up, limbo down
The locked embrace, the stumble round
I say go, she say yes
Dim the lights, you can guess the rest
Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug, got a hook in me

Plans to regenerate, reposition and rebrand the town of #Carrickfergus have moved a step closer after a funding agreement was sealed for the rollout of the £42m project.
A key strand within the Belfast Region City Deal under the ‘Tourism and Regeneration’ pillar, the Carrickfergus Regeneration is one of three projects in Mid and East Antrim that will collectively benefit from more than £80m investment as part of the City Deal.

Skateboard Park under construction by Mid & East Antrim B. Council; current financial cost unknown!!
We see another Skateboard Park under construction by Mid & East Antrim Borough Council, yet, we have one already constructed in nearby Carrickfergus, why on earth does any Council Borough require two???
Let's not forget that this is the same Council that hiked the Rates in 2024/25 by 9.78% for homeowners and 11.86% for small business owners (highest in Northern Ireland) which is way above inflation to pay for this spending extravagant and the financial outlay for this Skateboard Park isn't clear.
Were is the accountability to Ratepayers who struggle to find the money to pay for this largess, there appears not to be any!!??

Carrickfergus Museum celebrates National Poetry Day with a reflection on the work of poet, writer and broadcaster Louis MacNeice, who spent his childhood at the old Rectory, where his father was Rector of St Nicholas Parish Church.
Many thanks to Trevor Parkhill, MBE, former Keeper of History at the Ulster Museum.
MacNeice died in early September 1963, just a few days short of his fifty-sixth birthday His ashes were buried in Carrowdore Church of Ireland graveyard in County Down. After having been a lecturer in English at Birmingham University he had become a BBC producer of radio programmes.

LYRICS:
Tell her I'll be waiting
in the usual place
with the tired and weary
and there's no escape.
To need a women
you've got to know
how the strong get weak
and the rich get poor.
Slave to love
Oh Oh
Slave to love
You're running with me
don't touch the ground
we're the restless hearted
not the chained and bound.
The sky is burning
a sea of flame
though your world is changing
I will be the same.
Slave to love
oh oh
Slave to love
Slave to love
na na na na
na na na na
And I can't escape
I'm a slave to love
Can you help me?
Oh oh
Can you help me?
The storm is breaking
or so it seems
we're too young to reason
too grown to dream.
Now spring is turning
your face to mine
I can hear your laughter
I can see your smile.
Slave to love
na na na na
na na na na
And I can't escape
I'm a slave to love.

Bryan Ferry - Don't Stop The Dance, Roxy Music & Bryan Ferry, album More Than This (The Best of Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music), 1995
Bryan Ferry initially found music success with the group Roxy Music. Formed in 1970, Ferry fronted the band which he co-founded, and went on to achieve 10 UK top 10 hit singles and 11 UK top 10 albums (of which 4 were UK Number 1s).
1973 saw Bryan Ferry launch the beginnings of his solo career alongside Roxy Music's group projects. From this time up until the present day, he has continued to go from strength to strength, achieving great success with his solo endeavours as well as with Roxy Music.
Described as "one of most innovative and distinctive singers and lyricists to emerge in popular music" Ferry's sophisticated, elegant and glamorous on stage persona has won him fans around the world. His vocal genius is said to lie in his peerless ability to merge musical styles "from french chanson, through to classical crooner to hard edged rock."
Imprinting his own style into his recordings and performances successfully is reflected in his recognition as a highly successful solo artist in his own right; he has achieved great success with 5 top 10 UK chart singles as well as 10 UK chart top 10 albums (including the Number 1s "Boys and Girls" (1985) and "Street Life," (1986). Ferry has also won critical acclaim, most notably, his 2001 Grammy Nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for 1999's "As Time Goes By".

Lyrics:
T´ain´t no big thing
To wait for the bell to ring
T´ain´t no big thing
The toll of the bell
Aggravated - spare for days
I troll downtown the red light place
Jump up bubble up - what´s in store
Love is the drug and I need to score
Showing out, showing out, hit and run
Boy meets girl where beat goes on
Stitched up tight, can´t shake free
Love is the drug, got a hook on me
Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug for me
Late that night I park my car
Stake my place in the singles bar
Face to face, toe to toe
Heart to heart as we hit the floor
Lumber up, limbo down
The locked embrace, the stumble round
I say go, she say yes
Dim the lights, you can guess the rest
Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug, got a hook in me
Oh oh catch that buzz
Love is the drug i´m thinking of
Oh oh can´t you see
Love is the drug for me

Bryan Ferry, CBE (born 26 September 1945) is an English singer, songwriter and musician born in Washington, Tyne and Wear. His vocal style has been described as an "elegant, seductive croon". He also established a distinctive image and sartorial style; according to The Independent, in common with his contemporary David Bowie, he influenced a generation with both his music and his appearance.
The Carrickfergus project will firmly place the town on the map as an authentic, heritage-led, tourism hub, and a ‘must-visit’ starting point to the internationally acclaimed Causeway Coastal Route.
Following agreement with the Department for Communities, the lead department for this project, Mid and East Antrim Borough Council recently approved the signing of a funding agreement with Belfast City Council as Accountable Body for the Deal.

Here is a rainbow for your hair Here is another sign of the times We live, we die We laugh, we cry We know not why Lipstick and leather wear and tear Of another sign of the times We're chained and bound Hard lines, crack down On stony ground Here is a taste of here and now Red is the bloody sign of the times The bride stripped bare Of all despair We're cut but we don't care Here is a rainbow for your hair Here is another sign of the times Light up in anger, I'll be there Fight for a sign of the times We live, we die We laugh and we cry We know not why Bent on a life between the lines
