10 Best Things to See & Do in Apalachicola, Florida | 2023 Travel Guide
Situated on the northwest Gulf Coast in Franklin County is one of Florida’s most historic port cities. Taking its name from a tribe of Native Americans who once called this place home, Apalachicola is said to mean “land of friendly people.” It was established in 1831, quickly becoming a bustling port town for shipping cotton. By the end of the century, it was an important center for seafood processing and the oyster industry. Today, Apalachicola is a popular destination for travelers who come to enjoy the town’s historic architecture, unique culture, and beautiful natural scenery. This is a place I fell in love with my first trip here more than a decade ago. And you will too once you experience it. On this episode, I’m showing you the 10 best things to see and do in Apalachicola.

While we did work during the weekdays - it was still an amazing and relaxing trip (minus the sun burn).
We stayed at an amazing rental on St George Island, Florida https://www.floridasforgottencoast.com/st-george-island/ - played disk golf, Frisbee, walked my parent's adorable dog along the beach, drank and ate amazing food, Dad fished, Kassie played with the drone for the first time, and watched sunrise and set every day.
Explored a sunny day AND a cold windy day at Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/dr-julian-g-bruce-st-george-island-state-park
Rick and I headed to The Blue Parrot for a "day date" for cocktails and fried snacks and a beautiful view - with the puppy for company - https://www.blueparrotsgi.com/
Dad waited in line for donuts while we worked (such a delicious treat!) https://www.facebook.com/weberslittledonutshopsgi
A sneak peak of the Cape St. George Lighthouse. You can tour and visit and our parent's did while we worked - we didn't make it inside - next time! https://www.stgeorgelight.org/

A full day visit into Apalachicola https://www.cityofapalachicola.com/ (fun to say!) shopping, exploring, Kassie sold a few copies of her novel to the lovely Downtown Books and Purl https://downtownbooksandpurl.com/ and we finished with a few beers at Oyster City Brewery https://oystercity.beer/

What started as 40 from august to august has expanded to the start of 2023 to August 2024. Due to other people planning things that we want to join… before August 2023. This is the celebration of “omg Kassie survived 40 years - we never thought it would happen.” Maybe the next 40, I’ll be more careful so it won’t be so surprising. 40 “experiences” have to be #1 unique, #2 require the day and night in the location to count, #3 that’s it.
-----------------------------------------------
Originally from Iowa (Kassie) and Kansas (Rick), we met in Kansas in 2005 and immediately found that we had so much in common - including our desire to someday see the world. We now live in NYC and quickly started catching up on travel after our first (just us) international trip to Iceland in 2015. We decided to start making videos for us and our family/friends to track our travels. Kassie is in Marketing, an Author (see her poetry + author videos), and Puppet Creator. Rick is an Engineer and Script Writer (see our current and coming puppet movies!)
