We’re celebrating the start of construction activities for Canada’s new fleet of Canadian Surface Combatants (CSC)!
The CSC project will equip our fleet with 15 new, state-of-the-art warships to bolster our capabilities at home, and abroad for decades. Today’s start of construction is on the production test module, where Canada and Irving Shipbuilding Inc will be able to test, adapt and enhance the build process.

Why Only Frigates and NO Destroyers in Royal Canadian Navy?
Frigates vs Destroyers. Why Does the Canadian Navy Have No Destroyer Ships, Only Frigates? It was a time when Canada's mighty destroyers reigned supreme over its waters. But times changed, and now sleek, versatile frigates patrol where these giants once dominated. What drove this transformation in the Canadian Navy? And why does the Canadian Navy have no destroyer ships, only frigates?
Ah, the Iroquois-class destroyers. Just their name conjures images of steel giants slicing through icy waves, Canadian flags snapping proudly in the wind. They were the apex predators of the north, the guardians of a vast coastline, and symbols of national pride.
Imagine four of these majestic ships, named after fearsome Mohawk warriors – Iroquois, Huron, Algonquin, and Athabascan. Each weighed over 4,000 ...

Canadian Navy bolsters Arctic defence capability in the face of Russian aggression
Russia's aggression on the world stage has renewed concern about the state of Canada's Arctic defences.
Melting sea ice and glaciers have revealed a vast network of uncharted waters, giving Russian troops easier access to North America in a potential invasion.
With pressure mounting to defend Canada’s far north, Jeff Semple travels onboard a Canadian Navy icebreaker to learn what's being done to protect northern waters.
