Originally labelled Campbell Creek in 1917 by the Geographic Board of Canada, it was labelled Tahtaloo on International Boundary Survey sheet 2 (date not cited); variant spellings include Tahla too, Tah-la-loo, and Tah tu lo. It was probably named after Archibald Campbell, US commissioner in the joint negotiations to locate the international boundary 1857-1862, who had his camp at the mouth of the creek. It was identified in the field notes of Joseph Trutch's survey as Semiahmoo Creek in 1859.
Three hydroelectric dams are located on the Campbell River: The John Hart Dam, which holds back John Hart Lake; the Ladore Dam for Lower Campbell Lake, and the Strathcona Dam for Upper Campbell Lake. The three dams provide water to the John Hart Generating Station downstream from the John Hart Dam, which accounts for about 11 percent of Vancouver Island's total electricity supply.

The City of Surrey Council is considering a proposal to rezone an agriculture property on the banks of the Little Campbell River to “Light Industry” The developer intends to construct a truck parking and maintenance facility on the site. This property is only 2,400 meters upstream from the Little Campbell Hatchery. It is inevitable that petroleum and other contaminants will enter the river from this site. This could very well lead to the loss of the salmon and trout in this river that has taken club volunteers 59 years to restore. Shared Waters Alliance | Working with the Semiahmoo First Nation
The Shared Waters Alliance is an international working group focused on the water quality of the Canadian-US shared waters of Boundary Bay. Boundary Bay is a critical section of BC’s rare coastline habitat, recognized locally, nationally, and internationally.
Downstream from our South Surrey, BC centre, through which the TATALU (or Little Campbell) River runs, the Semiahmoo First Nation has lived at the river's mouth for thousands of years. Due to pollution of the TATALU and Boundary Bay, the Nation has had to discontinue their generations-long practice of shellfish harvesting.
One of the main goals of the Alliance is for Boundary Bay's waters to be restored so that shellfish harvesting for the Semiahmoo may be restored also.

Welcome to my YouTube Channel, thank you for visiting.
Campbell River is known as the Salmon Capital of the World.
Geographically located in the heart of Central North Vancouver Island and within a few hour's drive to some pretty historical little towns & adventures.
Surrounded by 5 Provincial Parks, ( Miracle Beach, Strathcona, Morton Lake, Elk Falls & Loveland Bay)
This incredible family-oriented city is loaded with opportunity.
One of the last affordable cities on the Island to own real estate, and call home. Approximate population 2016 - 36,000 people - and growing!
The climate in Campbell River is definitely four seasons, wild winter storms accompanied with maybe a few days of snow.
A little rain in the fall and spring give this area the beautiful green forests and sparkling clear rivers.
Storm watching is a MUST when you visit or live in Campbell River.
BUT it is the summer months that make this part of the island special... hot sunny days are beach weather for sure... pack a picnic and head out for a day on the water.... don't forget your fishing rods!
So much to do and so little time!
It is also home to North Island College, for continued learning.
If you would like weekly updates on the Comox Valley Real estate market please subscribe.

www.fhcv.ca | The most productive salmon and trout river for its size in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia is now at risk due to a development proposal.
The development site is located on the south side of 16th Avenue between 192nd & 194th Street. The river runs through the northern section of this property.
If you are opposed to the proposed development please make the City of Surrey Mayor and Council aware of your position. Click here for information on how: http://www.fhcv.ca/get-involved/#

White Rock is a city in British Columbia, Canada, and a member municipality of the Metro Vancouver Regional District. It borders Semiahmoo Bay to the south and is surrounded on three sides by Surrey. To the southeast across a footbridge lies the Semiahmoo First Nation, which is within the borders of Surrey.
The City of Surrey has approved the South Campbell Heights Local Area Plan, which proposes to change the land use of 660 acres of rural land in the Hazelmere Valley to mixed employment uses, such as industrial and commercial. Final approval is needed from Metro Vancouver to change the land use and extend the urban containment boundary. This would have numerous repercussions for wildlife, human health, and agriculture. This video shows the Top 10 Reasons to Oppose the South Campbell Heights Local Area Plan.
The final Metro vote is happening January 28; here's what you can do to help:
1. Write a letter/email or make a phone call to the MVRD Board members asking them to vote in opposition to the proposal. Reference item 'G3.3 - South Campbell Heights, City of Surrey - Regional Growth Strategy Amendment Bylaw No. 1328' in your correspondence.
