The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the five big cats in the genusPanthera and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa. With some males exceeding 250kg (550lb) in weight, it is the second-largest living cat after the tiger. Wild lions currently exist in sub-Saharan Africa and in Asia (where an endangered remnant population resides in Gir Forest National Park in India) while other types of lions have disappeared from North Africa and Southwest Asia in historic times. Until the late Pleistocene, about 10,000years ago, the lion was the most widespread large land mammal after humans. They were found in most of Africa, across Eurasia from western Europe to India, and in the Americas from the Yukon to Peru. The lion is a vulnerable species, having seen a major population decline in its African range of 30–50% per two decades during the second half of the twentieth century. Lion populations are untenable outside designated reserves and national parks. Although the cause of the decline is not fully understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are currently the greatest causes of concern. Within Africa, the West African lion population is particularly endangered.
Leons (Dutch:Lions) is a small village in Littenseradiel in the Dutch province of Friesland. Situated in pastoral farming country, the village had around 20 inhabitants in 2004.
Lions (stylized as LIONS) is an American rock band from Austin, Texas, formed in 2005. The lineup consists of singer Matt Drenik, guitarist Austin Kalman and drummer Jake Perlman. Trevor Sutcliffe was Lions' bassist from their formation until his departure in 2009, where he was replaced by Mike Sellman. The band formed following the breakup of The Good Looks, the previous band of both Drenik and Perlman.
Matt Drenik and Jake Perlman were both members of the Austin-based rock band The Good Looks. When they later broke up in the middle of a summer tour, Drenik was told by a club owner that he would keep a Fu Manchu support slot if he formed another band. After renting out an open space above a bar, to write and practice, Drenik and Perlman began working with guitarist Austin Kalman and bassist Trevor Sutcliffe whose bands had also broken up. They quickly formed a new group and, following a suggestion from Perlman, named themselves Lions, due to a large lion head that covered a whole wall of open space where they practiced. Lions went on to fulfill the support slots of The Good Looks while their later shows gained the band some notoriety for their high-energy performances.

In round dance a person who performs this function is called a cuer. Their role is fundamentally the same as a caller, in that they tell dancers what to do in a given dance, though they differ on several smaller points. In northern New England contra dancing, the caller is also known as the prompter.
Comparing callers and cuers
Callers and cuers serve slightly different functions in different types of dance. Improvisation in modern Western square dance calling distinguishes it from the calling in many other types of dance.
Callers in many dance types are expected to sing and to be entertaining, but round dance cuers do not sing and are expected to be as unobtrusive as possible.
Standardized dances such as round dance, modern Western square dance, and Salsa Rueda consist of a number of defined difficulty levels. Callers and cuers are responsible for knowing all of the calls or cues (respectively), also known as figures, for the defined difficulty level at which their dancers are dancing, as well as all figures belonging to lower or easier levels.
In the game of poker, the play largely centers on the act of betting, and as such, a protocol has been developed to speed up play, lessen confusion, and increase security while playing. Different games are played using different types of bets, and small variations in etiquette exist between cardrooms, but for the most part the following rules and protocol are observed by the majority of poker players.
Procedure
Players in a poker game act in turn, in clockwise rotation (acting out of turn can negatively affect other players). When it is a player's turn to act, the first verbal declaration or action she takes binds her to her choice of action; this rule prevents a player from changing her action after seeing how other players react to her initial, verbal action.
Until the first bet is made each player in turn may "check," which is to not place a bet, or "open," which is to make the first bet. After the first bet each player may "fold," which is to drop out of the hand losing any bets they have already made; "call," which is to match the highest bet so far made; or "raise," which is to increase the previous high bet.

The Lion
The lion is King of the savanna.
Look at his jaws and teeth.
When the animals see his face,
they run and run with all their might.
The lion is King of the savanna.
Look at his tail and mane.
When he roams in the savanna,
he walks and runs with pride.
Roar!

Jordan Davidson has guided many safaris in the bush, but this sighting even took him by surprise during one of his recent game drives.
Lions are known to rest and relax during the middle of the day, and this day was no different for three big, and beautiful young lions. There were two females and a male specifically, and they’re all believed to be around five years old.
Everything seemed to be in place for another typical, fantastic, lion sighting. However, this time would prove to be more fruitful…
A rhino came strolling into the picture, looking for some fresh grass to graze on. Nothing had happened but just the rhino’s sheer size, and the presence of the two species being together, made it all so exciting.
Lions have a strong understanding of their limitations, and even for the three of them together, taking on a large white rhino would be a massive risk. Everyone on the safari could see this too, so, even with all the excitement, there wasn’t really any expectation of something more happening.
That was until the rhino walked right up to where the lions were relaxing! Rhinos don’t have the best eyesight, so it likely couldn’t see anything from far out, but the lions’ smell was suspicious for the rhino, so it kept investigating.
Eventually, the rhino was so close that it made one of the lionesses uncomfortable! She ran off and for good reason, the rhino could see clearly now and already had a defensive stance.
The second lioness had more of an opportunistic eye, as the rhino was chasing her sister away, she went into a pouncing position and waited for her shot. She didn’t have to wait long, as the rhino quickly decided that it would be best to make a U-turn and head the other way.
After launching for the rhino’s rump, it didn’t even take a second for the lioness to realize that she was in over her head. She immediately let go and abandoned ship, all the while, the now very grumpy rhino was turning around to face them.
With both lionesses out of the picture, the only thing that stood in the rhino’s way was the poor male lion! Having a stare down with an animal that is bigger than some family-sized cars can only be daunting, but amazingly the lion’s first instinct wasn’t to run!
No, the lion walked right up to the rhino to meet it head-on! This was unquestionably brave, but considering just how long the rhino’s horn was, it didn’t seem like the greatest of ideas.
Without much surprise, the male lion ended up learning the same lesson as the female just before him, but not before the rhino tried stabbing at it, twice! And only missing marginally both times!
Realizing how lucky he was, the lion bolted away into the bushes, and the rhino took the chance to run the other way, bringing one of the wildest lion and rhino interactions that we’ve seen to an end.

Chris Gonsalves is a travel enthusiast, but none of his trips could have prepared him for the safari sighting he filmed during his recent trip to Chobe National Park.
Chobe is famous for its lion sightings, and Chris happened to be visiting an area with the rumored super pride: the Serondela Lion Pride. With so many mouths to feed, these lions are known to target large game!
Some of the pride members had been spotted on the road earlier in the day, so the ranger decided to head in that direction. Little did anyone realize what sighting they were heading towards...
Searching for lions is always exciting, and it didn’t take long to find them. What no one expected to see was what they found with the lions. Everything about the sighting could have been typical, it was a few lions relaxing in the shade, and some cubs playing with a log. What was not typical was the giraffe standing right in the middle of them!
The giraffe had clearly been chased to the point of exhaustion, as it was just inches away from the closest lions, and frozen to the spot. The lionesses, who had done all the chasing, were tired too, and knowing the giraffe wasn’t going anywhere in a hurry, they decided to rest right next to it.
Peace didn't last long, and it was back to action as soon as the lions had caught their breath! One of the lionesses snuck behind the giraffe while it was distracted and launched herself onto its rump. Panic set in immediately, and with its last bit of energy, the giraffe flung the lioness off and made a dash for it.
Lions are coordinated, and as soon as one was flung off, the others were right on the giraffe’s tail. Before the giraffe could even run a few meters, another lion jumped on its back, this time going for the neck! The lion didn’t get a strong enough grip, and with a flick of its neck, the giraffe shook it off.
The giraffe was desperate at this point. It tried kicking to get the pride away, but its feet were shaky, and it was trembling. The same lioness that targeted its neck managed to climb the giraffe again, this time getting a decent grip. So it came as a surprise when the giraffe managed to buckle her off again! But that took the very last that it had!
The giraffe’s legs were crumbling, and it couldn’t help itself from collapsing to the ground. It had sadly reached the end of the road, and the lions wasted no time finishing the job.

The lion (Panthera leo) is one of the five big cats in the genusPanthera and a member of the family Felidae. The commonly used term African lion collectively denotes the several subspecies found in Africa.
