Canada election: How are federal electoral districts determined?
The 2019 federal election is underway and all parties have launched campaigns in their drive to be the next government of Canada.
Parliament was dissolved on Sept. 11, which gave the Liberals, the Conservatives, the NDP, the Greens, and the Bloc Quebecois 40 days to try to convince voters they are the right choice.
During elections, we always hear about which ridings we should be watching, or which ones are likely to vote for certain parties. But have you ever stopped to think how those ridings are formed in the first place?

On Friday, Cochrane called for all Canadians to speak out over a lack of infrastructure and communications in the territory.
After commending Cochrane for her leadership and approach to tackling the devastating situation, Trudeau addressed the "gap" Cochrane spoke of, promising more "resilient infrastructure" and further support for the territory as it faces the consequences of severe climate change.
"I'm tired, have been tired for a long time for asking for infrastructure, and now I'm angry." Cochrane said on Friday, during a joint press conference in Calgary with
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
Cochrane also addressed pressing climate challenges, including melting permafrost, Arctic Sea ice loss, and increasing fires. "If this happens next year, is it my fault? Whose fault is it when we can't get people out because we don't have basic infrastructure that every Canadian takes for granted?"
Tens of thousands have been forced from the territory, with more than 21,500 people seeking refuge elsewhere. Cochrane, an evacuee herself, shared her gratitude for the provincial governments of Alberta and Manitoba.
